Ted Lampkin Giving Up Football, Transferring to Nebraska
Quote:
Ted Lampkin, the Omaha Central star who won four all-class gold medals at the 2011 Nebraska state track meet, is transferring from Iowa State to Nebraska.
The 2011 World-Herald boys athlete of the year will concentrate solely on track for now at NU, said his father, Ted Lampkin,

At ISU, the younger Lampkin played football and competed on the track team. He hasn't talked to the Husker football coaches.
“Juggling two sports at the collegiate level was kind of tough,” Ted Lampkin, Sr. said. “One sport is a full-time job. There's no offseason. And Ted's heart right now is in track and field. The football coaches (at Iowa State) didn't want him to leave.”

He had left the football team prior to Spring ball, hadn't he?

Yep, he was named with Duck Hollis and those guys before Spring.
I wonder if things didn't work out with Track then?
I always thought he would make a great football player in a Jarvis West role.

Too bad, cuz he is silly fast. I think he ran like a 10.6 100m dash.
Edit: just checked and in he is 5th in NE all class history w/ a 10.75 sec 100m dash. Still silly fast.

Nebraska's track program is stronger, Ted Lampkin, Sr. said, in part because of head coach Gary Pepin, one of the nation's top long jump coaches. At Iowa State, Lampkin was an All-Big 12 long jumper as a freshman.
“He really didn't have anybody to push him,” Ted Lampkin, Sr. said.
That's a tough comment against our track team.
Re: Ted Lampkin Giving Up Football, Transferring to Nebraska
I think he just means that we do not have the depth for him to compete during practices.
Why will he be eligible right away at Nebby?

I bet it's because he was on a FB scholarship here, and will be on a track scholly at NU.

It sounds nice, but we'll see if he doesn't play football. I have a tough time believing Bo won't be knocking on his door.

Maybe, but according to his recruiting profile, NU never offered to begin with.
(Disclaimer: Those aren't always 100% accurate)

I think the one year sit out only applies to large revenue sports.
So he would have to sit out a year for football, not track though.
Re: Ted Lampkin Giving Up Football, Transferring to Nebraska
I think his football days are over, some guys are football players that run track, he's a track guy who is on the football team. Not saying he couldn't have been a contributor on the football field, but I think he see's his future is brighter on the track. Good luck to him...unless he ends up playing football, then to hell with him :jimlad:

It would be the same as the kid from Baylor last season, a RB I believe names Goodson who played bball at Gonzaga one year then football at Baylor last year without sitting out.
