White and Woody, as they showed last year, are enough to carry a team but it'd be nice to have another proven back.
And to the post above, just because you know what's coming doesn't mean you can stop it. If the line does their job it's 3 yards pretty much automatically each play. See: Belldozer.
Shontrelle has proven that when he is healthy he is an explosive back capable of blowing a play wide open. He is cleared to play now and will have another 2 months to fully heal before the first game. I like our situation right now.

I've seen enough of the Belldozer. I'd rather never see that play again.

Adrian Peterson is also an explosive back capable of blowing a play wide open but like Shontrelle, is coming off major surgery. No one knows how he'll respond. Both could come back just as strong as they left the field or both could never be like their old selves. Expecting Shontrelle to just come back into his old form after having been away from the field for an extended period of time is asking a lot.
Re: Shontrelle cleared to play
I think it will be
SJ 35.67%
White 34.392%
Woody 15.00000000002%
the rest 14.93799999998%
Re: Shontrelle cleared to play
Hope he's 100%. Here's to seeing some more of this....

A neck injury should not have any impact on his running style, like having major surgery on your knee/ankle would, so to compare AP and Shontrelle in that regard does not hold.

I think you need to increase the significant digits.... where's your accuracy?

On his running form maybe not, but style? A neck injury could absolutely change his running style. If he plays tentative in fear of reinjuring his neck that could change his running style drastically. If his neck doesn't swivel as well as it used to or is a little bit slower than it used to be it could change his running style. No one knows how he is going to come back. No one. We all hope for the best but until he steps on the field in a game, we don't have a clue how he'll bounce back. Expecting him to just come in and lead the team in carries after James White showed he was more than capable as a feature back is a little nuts.

If SJ is on the field that means that he has proven to CPR and staff that he is back, no question to me at that point.
I agree that some of us (myself included) are "jumping the gun" a bit with the two young backs but based on the coaches they have earn some playing time. Again, if the coaches say go then I trust they are capable.

When did I say he was going to lead the team in carries?
I get that you have some worries about it, but if the staff and doctors clear him to play, then I for one am going to trust that he can still be a capable back like he was pre-injury. I never said that he would lead the team in carries, I just think you have to still count him as a proven back due to what he has PROVEN on the field before the injury.
Re: Shontrelle cleared to play
You got lumped in with all the people who said he'll lead the team in % of carries. I apologize.
And we can agree to disagree on your last point. A pitcher can have Tommy John surgery done and get the OK from the doctor and come back completely different. A lineman can have knee surgery and never be the same. That's why surgery is a scary thing...you never know the end result until you get to the end.

I don't give much credence to coach speak. They have an interest in saying positive things instead of honest things. Weren't we told last year our defensive line was going to take a huge step forward? Yeah, well they still stunk. Coaches can't really be honest.

Those are surgeries that are directly linked to the position that the player plays. A pitcher needs his arm to throw. A linemen needs his knees to create a strong base.
A neck surgery sounds a lot better to me then Shontrelle coming back from a knee, ankle, foot, etc surgery.
Re: Shontrelle cleared to play
Wouldn't be surprised to see him used as a slot type WR if we are in Jet tempo and they want to keep same personnel on the field. Throwing the bubble screen to him and immediately having him in space is putting a lot of pressure on the defense for the first guy there to make the tackle.
