COACH RHOADS: It will be easier for us in this fall camp than it was a year ago because we truthfully had three guys competing a year ago, and this year we’ve only got two.
So you’re looking at a system devised by Coach Messingham to divide up those repetitions, one guy with the one and the other guy with the twos, and give them the equal amount of looks, seven on seven in team situations that they need with those guys to earn the position.
And, as I mentioned before, accuracy and throwing a football is going to be a heightened piece of my attention as they go through this battle.
We’ll have three scrimmages at that point where I’ll probably make my decision, and those scrimmages play out on a Saturday/Wednesday/Saturday, and it will give those boys ample opportunity to show they deserve to be our starter September 1 against Tulsa.
So.....Sam Richarson is not really in the running. Hmmm.....
I was thinking we only had 2 competing last year.
That quote stood out to me too cuphues.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that noticed that quote. Somebody on here was posting about their "friend on the team" who said that Richardson was in the running. Looks like that isn't really the case.
I know this is way off in the future, but if Richardson isn't in the same league as Jantz and Barnett right now, I wonder if Rohach will be ahead of him a year from now.
I'm assuming the three last year were Jantz, Barnett, and Tiller?
I'm not surprised by the quote but it did stand out to me. I've never once actually believed that Sam was in the running. No disrespect to him. But I never really thought that thought that a RS Fr. would beat out two guys who have proven they can win big games.
I'd be ok with Richardson being in the mix. Unless Steele and or Barnett have made massive strides.
I think it would be a bad sign if Richardson were in the mix. We can't go into every season hoping/expecting a redshirt freshman QB to be the savior. And just because he isn't in the mix right now, doesn't mean he's a bust! I know no one has said that, but you all know the mentality of some fans on here if a player hasn't become all-conference within 2 years...
Also, how about Rhoads mentioning season ticket sales are higher than last year. Sounds good to me.
