Because that might come in handy sometime.

Wish I could find the YouTube of that flyover at work, but alas, WebSense won't let me. Apparently they came in too low and as soon as soon as they entered the stadium there was a slight suction gap that pulled them down basically at eye level with the press box( you should have heard the WMT-AM announcer screaming and crapping all over the microphone at the same time). Luckily they pulled out at the last nanosecond and missed the scoreboard at the opposite end of the field by a few feet. I had a schnockeye friend who was sitting about 15 rows down from the exit point under the scoreboardand he had to change his underwear on the fly before kickoff. As soon as the pilots landed they were IMMEDIATELY discharged and terminated with extreme prejudice. This youtube does not do it justice but here it goes...

I didnt realize these were used for training, so if they would have been in the air anyway then fine. I guess I never really get excited about that sort of thing.

Re: Flyover at Kinnick
There is an easy way to solve every one's concerns. Just make sure that the pilots flying those jets are all Iowa State graduates. They did a fantastic job flying over JTS last year. (By the way, one of the pilots was my cousin's son.)

As for the pilots who violated the altitude limit at the Iowa game, they weren't "IMMEDIATELY discharged." The lead pilot lost his flying privileges and eventually resigned, but the other 3 pilots continued their service with their flying privileges intact.

All flyovers are used for practicing time on target or time to target flights. Also, the flights from the jets home station to the place of landing also accomplishes certain training that the pilots are required to maintain.
