Re: STOP putting your weddings on Cyclone FB weekends!!
There was a great Doritos commercial a couple of years back that shows a groom and the male members of the wedding party holed up in a coat closet at the reception, watching the "big game". The end of the commercial shows the bride coming in and sitting on the groom's knee, asking what the score is. I loved the commercial because I thought "That is so me." But then I thought "Wait, I wouldn't have done that in the first place."
I was pondering what the previous poster said. If you or your bride-to-be have found the perfect venue(s) for your wedding, and have a limited selection of dates, do NOT select the day of Iowa State/Iowa and not a home date. Take an away game date, get married at 10 am, and provide plenty of TV's at the reception. (lunch makes a cheaper reception) Do some of the group activities at halftime. (first dance, bouquet/garter toss)
Heck, get married Friday evening before a home game, then rent out an ISU tent or two on Saturday and host the reception there.
Re: STOP putting your weddings on Cyclone FB weekends!!
Agree with all this. It just happened to me as well, though I'll give the couple the benefit of the doubt because they wanted a wedding ASAP, so they weren't considering a wide range of dates in the first place.
But yes, I'll be at a wedding for the ISU vs Texas game in November. And I suppose that, since it's Texas, the hope for a 11am kickoff is a futile one.

To the people are greater than football guy. Yes they are and 150 people are greater than two. So yave some respect for those 150 wedding attendants and have your wedding on a non football Saturday.

I got married last year on a football weekend but ISU played UCONN on Friday night so the rest of the weekend was clear. Win/win for the cyclone fans...I didn't care about the squawk fans that missed their game

What did you do? The little gauntlet of challenge pisses me off just reading it.

Disagree. On the wedding, those 2 are the only ones that mater. There are many more considerations for wedding scheduling than the football schedule. Sometimes, it just happens to be that day.

But but but but....ALL 150 guests are EXTREMELY diehard football fans. You shouldn't be selfish! Think of me! Think of me!

My bad. Wedding is off.
Re: STOP putting your weddings on Cyclone FB weekends!!
If I would have used the CF rules for weddings, there were about 2 weekends out of 52 that I could have picked:
1. No fb weekends, that's Sept Oct November.
2. No holiday weekends, New Years, Easter, Mem Day, Mom/Dad Day, Flag Day, President's Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, Thanksgiving, Xmas
3. I cannot take time off of work in Feb, May July or Nov.
4. You're really testing your luck to have a winter wedding in Iowa...blizzards and such. So that axes Dec, Jan, Feb, and March is fairly iffy.
After removing Feb May July and Nov for work restrictions and the rest of CF's Rules of Weddings, I'm basically left with April, or June where everything is already booked and price gouged out the ***.
So I have to pick one of 4 April dates, dancing around Easter, and I'm sure someone somewhere has kids that has one of those weird April spring break things and I would "ruin their family getaway" if I dared schedule a wedding over it.
So 2 floating April dates are acceptable. Everyone take note.

As long as we understand that life decisions take second fiddle to football, we're all on the same page.
