That's just a being smart imo. I am 22 and am twitter and facebook. As much as I would love to complain about family, work or friends at times I don't because those people follow me on twitter and facebook.
If they are putting it out there it's free game imo. If he didn't want this all out there (or anyone else for that matter coaches etc.) one could only hope that he/they learn a lesson and don't put it out there.

I see a great future CF segment in this thread. Creepin on Quan!

I was just disagreeing with the assertion that us over 30 or over 40 group are naive enough to think that our postings are private unless we make them public. We are probably as a whole more painfully aware of that than the younger set. That is why you see so many wary of even participating in social media.

My thoughts: I don't have a facebook acct, got a twitter one last year or the year before just because I saw a lot of FB stories broken from there, one of the players injured, was on twitter well before any media had it.
The athletes with private accounts...if you sent 'em a request, they'd accept it, seemed like to me, so it's not just 'friends' for those either.
Got some good info, but after a month or so, seeing all the 'I'm going to bed' tweets made it not worth my time. I'd be interested in hearing how practice went, don't care when you're going to bed or that there's a sweet honey in front of you in class. Realize others could be, and I guess that's what twitter is for. Although, even that stuff, from my real friends, I wouldn't care.
Stopped checking twitter shortly after that.

This has been an ongoing debate in the social media realm. I'm not saying you are showing your age but in a way you are. People older than say 30-40 naturally assume everything is private unless you make it public. Almost every person under those ages and especially those who use social media assume everything is public unless you make it private.
Is it slightly creepy? Yes. Is it an okay and accepted practice and way to gain info? 100% I'm 25, so your age meter is a bit off. I'm showing that my interpretation of social media rules is different than yours. It's one thing to know the information is 100% public and understand that there are potential ramifications of that. I agree on that front. For example if you post pictures of yourself on vacation on Facebook while claiming you are on sick leave at work, I have absolutely no problem if your boss sees that and fires you. I don't mind if the police use it for official searches. There's a reason that looking up the facebook accounts of people you don't know is called "creeping."
I feel there is a distinct boundary with the social media and the internet in general. If you know someone in real life and have met them in person, it's ok to engage them on the internet to talk about real life. If you don't know that person in real life, you should not act online as if you do. Just like in real life, the further removed you are from that person, the less personally you should act with them.
The line is a little blurry with celebrity/advertising type twitter accounts, but those are clearly made for the purpose of talking to the public at large. It would be different if Quan West was a star player, expecting media attention and encouraging lots of people to follow him and intentionally using his twitter to speak to "the public".
In my view, your stance on this is just blaming the victim. It's not ok in crime, and it's not ok in this situation either. Yes, you shouldn't post personal things to Facebook or Twitter because anybody could read them. That doesn't make it any less wrong or creepy for random people to obsess over the comments of an 18 year old kid who's just having a bad day. I know, it happens a lot especially in the recruiting threads and I find it creepy every time.

Re: Creepin'/Not Creepin' on Quan West!?
WE DON'T NEED FACTS IN THIS THREAD........
Pure stalking of kids 18-22 is only allowed in this thread by grown adults. Sorry youngins but this thread isn't for you. Only us old folk that prey on the young through facebook and twitter...
I wouldn't be surprised if I see a van driving around the practice field, with Candy spray painted on the side of it.
