Re: Offensive line ready to pound the rock

Love to hear about the chemistry they have developed. It's a cliche, but games are won and lost along the line. Solid play there will make it easier for the other units to excel.

Wow, he really seems confident. I hope that isn't just coach speak. A good OL can really help out a sub-par QB situation....

I know exactly what you mean. I really hope it isn't, because I've got the Kool-Aid all mixed up and ready to go.

Re: Offensive line ready to pound the rock

Coach-speak or not, Bleil really loves his offensive lineman. At media day, he told me if he was starting a business, he'd hire seven of them to get it started.

It sounds like they're all nice kids, and they're committed to winning football games. Bleil is really encouraged. Whether that shows against Tulsa remains to be seen, but the coaches are confident.

If our OL is capable of telekinesis, I'm predicting a 14-0 national championship season.

Our run game can stand to get a bit more creative if they want to break that 200 yards/game barrier. Some more tosses to the outside to stretch the defense will open up the inside more and more.

“It’s crucial to be on the same page,” Bykowski said. “I feel like, not even saying the right thing, but just making a certain sound, or certain movement with your hand, we’re on the same wavelength. It’s kind of like telekinesis.”
I think you mean telepathy Bykowski. Telekinesis would be cooler though.

Re: Offensive line ready to pound the rock

While it is nice to have 6 players returning with good experience under their belts, I don't get the repeated claim of "good depth" when the depth chart shows undersized redshirt freshman as the #2 at both tackle positions.

It's probably the case that Lichtenberg is the backup at both tackle spots, but unless Dika is fully healed, that means we are down to no experience players as backups inside too.

Bleil still has alot to prove IMO. He's been adequate at best in his time in Ames so far.

IMO Bleil has proven the most on that side of the ball. Of course, that is not saying too much.

Re: Offensive line ready to pound the rock

One thing that was very frustrating to watch last year, especially in the bowl game, was the poor playcalling on the part of our lame duck O.C. I was watching the game with my dad who kept yelling "Come on Line!" when Rutgers would blitz and it wasn't picked up.
However it wasn't an OL problem, it was a scheme problem. I rewound the plays and showed him that in many, way too many, cases, there were more defenders at the point of attack than there offensive linemen to block them. That is a scheme issue, not an OL issue and I hope that is resolved by the change in coordinators.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

Pass protection is the biggest area of improvement needed IMO. The running game shows promise, but still lacks consistency.

IMO mostly a casualty of mediocre QB and overall scheme. Bleil and Co would have needed to be at All-American levels to overcome our recent lack of pocket skills at QB and compressed, meager passing game.
