Tulsa takes a day to look ahead of ISU
Wow... John E. Hoover: Opener at Iowa State is big, but bigger games await TU | Tulsa World
Quote:
Two weeks ago, Blankenship even had what he calls a Tulane practice, a day spent almost exclusively working on the Green Wave.
"Our focus was on Tulane, because that's our most important game in September," he said. "That's our conference game.
"I told them if we win at Iowa State, I'm gonna be on your tail because we've got to be focused for that (Tulane) game, no matter what."
Senior safety Dexter McCoil said the Tulane practice was a nice training camp diversion to "get our mind off the grind" of preparing day in and day out for Iowa State.
"Of course our goal is to win the Conference USA championship, and Tulane is the first game affecting that," McCoil said.

Yeah if you look at their website they have previews on all of the CUSA teams that they are playing but nothing about ISU. Obviously their main objective is to win CUSA this year.
Re: Tulsa takes a day to look ahead of ISU
In all honesty, we need to get to the point where the conference title is the thing that we are worried about the most. Maybe the coaching staff is there, but most of us fans, myself included, are not.

Go ahead and let them "look past" ISU, it won't hurt my feelings any if they're going to make the game easier for Jantz and company

If we get to the point where we aren't underdogs in any of our non-cons, then we can start to worry about conference titles

Actually, based on those comments, it sounds more like they spent a lot of training camp preparing for ISU, and the "Tulane Practice" was the exception while ISU was the rule.
Re: Tulsa takes a day to look ahead of ISU
I agree, that will be the next big step for ISU. When getting to 6 wins isn't what we are looking to base our season on. Getting to the Big 12 Championship is.

I respect the fact that the goal of their season is to win the conference, but they seem comfortable enough to take a day off preparing for ISU to prepare for their week 2 opponent.

From the article:Two weeks ago, Blankenship even had what he calls a Tulane practice, a day spent almost exclusively working on the Green Wave.
Again, the article implies that they've been prepping exclusively for ISU for a big part of the training camp (not just this week) and that one day, two weeks ago in the middle of camp, they took a day off from ISU and worked on Tulane. Not during game week.
Re: Tulsa takes a day to look ahead of ISU
I understand these guys will be the toughest opener we have had since Florida State, but it is NOT surprising they would do that.
Im sure ISU does similar things as well.

Another poster beat me to it, but what I get from the article is they have spent an inordinate amount of time on ISU.
Re: Tulsa takes a day to look ahead of ISU
They can afford to do this. A loss to us does not put their season goals in jeopardy. A loss to them puts our season in serious trouble.

Re: Tulsa takes a day to look ahead of ISU
They will be prepared for us and there is noway they over look us. we are in the big 12 so crying out loud!!
Re: Tulsa takes a day to look ahead of ISU
Yeah I get what you are saying, I just find it odd they are looking ahead to week 2 because their goal is to win the conference...its not like they are looking at each team in Conference USA. I'm more shocked that their coach would even bring this up to the media. Ask just about any coach in America the most important game on their schedule, and they will say the next one.
