I'm Cheering for the Big XII
CUMULATIVE NON-CONFERENCE RECORDS THROUGH WEEK 4
Big XII 25-3 = 89%
SEC 28-7 = 80%
Pac 12 23-9 = 72%
Big 10 33-13 = 72%
ACC 24-9 = 73%
More than at any other time in my life I'm cheering for the teams of the Big XII to win their non-conference games. In the past I loved to see Nebraska and Missouri lose - regardless of the opponent. But the success of the Big XII has a such an impact on ISU that I'm starting to see the conference as a "team". This began last year when I watched Baylor beat #14 TCU (awesome game) and Kansas State pulled out a win at Miami and I even cheered for Oklahoma in their prime-time showdown with #5 Florida State. The Big XII was impressive last year:
TEAM NON-CON BOWL
Baylor 3-0 (W vs #14 TCU) W - Alamo - Washington
ISU 3-0 (W vs Iowa 3OT) L - Pinstripe - Rutgers
Kansas 2-1 (L @ Georgia Tech 66-24) ---
Kansas St 3-0 (W @ Miami) L - Cotton - #6 Arkansas
Missouri 2-1 (L @ Arizona St OT) W - Independence - North Carolina
Oklahoma 3-0 (W @ #5 FSU) W - Insight - Iowa
OSU 3-0 (W vs Arizona) W - Fiesta - #4 Stanford
Texas 3-0 (W vs BYU) W - Holiday - California
Texas A&M 2-1 (L vs Arkansas) W - Meineke Car Care - Northwestern
Texas Tech 3-0 (weaksause) --- The returning eight members of the Big XII went 23-1 in the non-conference last year! And the current incarnation of the Big XII went 6-2 in bowl games. This increased our computer numbers immensely. (I think the SoS numbers had 8 of the Big XII teams in the top ten - or something like that.) If we (as a conference) can pull off a similar result this year I think we will see increased respect from the media and an added benefit to Cyclone recruiting (more stars!). It will also legitimize our TV contracts and set us up in the future for even bigger paydays.

Re: I'm Cheering for the Big XII
I have always cheered for the Big 12. Only makes us look better when we beat the other teams. I also cheer for Iowa. I love it when they feel like the season was a "would of, could of" season had they not lost to us....

Sorry I cannot cheer for Iowa - my despise for the them is too deeply ingrained in my DNA to ever cheer for them. Big 12 teams different.

I'm pretty much indifferent to Iowa once the conference schedule starts. After basketball season ends my level of caring increases gradually until I want to destroy them and all associated the week of the game. Afterwards, back to indifferent.

I thought the same thing today. I never liked mizzouri nebraska or atm but now that they are gone, i cheer for each team. I even bought a big 12 shirt the other day.

Re: I'm Cheering for the Big XII
I lived over seas for four years and was known as "the guy from Iowa." I was made fun of no matter which Iowa team lost, so found myself rooting for the enemy when we weren't playing them.

A guilty pleasure of mine is listening to the hawk call in show after a hawk loss. So yeah, I enjoy when they lose.

Re: I'm Cheering for the Big XII
I generally root for all Big 12 teams in the non-con. Unless they've been an affront to the Cyclones (K-State has drawn my ire lately...) Once the conference slate begins, it gets way more complicated. Whichever benefits ISU most, in most cases. Like cheering for OU or UT to stay undefeated and go to the BCS title game, moving everyone else up a slot in the bowl pickings.

Re: I'm Cheering for the Big XII
Not many challenges for Big 12 members, but certainly more than last season.
Here are the non-creampuff non-con games for the Big 12 this year:
Tulsa @ Iowa State
Miami (FL) @ Kansas State
Iowa State @ Iowa
Oklahoma State @ Arizona
Texas @ Ole Miss
Kansas @ Northern Illinois
Virginia @ TCU
Maryland @ WVU
TCU @ SMU
Notre Dame @ Oklahoma
I would think the Big 12 loses two or three.

I will never cheer for Iowa and can't stand fellow Cyclone fans who do.

Re: I'm Cheering for the Big XII
I have tried to support Iowa in the past to feel like a decent person but then the hawk fans make it downright impossible...I'd be happy if they lose every game

Re: I'm Cheering for the Big XII
I am in agreement with you on cheering for fellow Big 12 teams in non-conference play. However, I have had too many friends, relatives, and family attend college at South Dakota State. So, I am rooting for SDSU in their game at Kansas.
