Re: Marching Band
I'm tempted to go into, "Back in my day, we actually had to high step" mode... screw it. Back in my day, we actually had to high step!

Re: Marching Band
Ahhh....band people, pretending like what they do matters....it never changes.
Not trying to be a jerk (but probably doing a good job of it despite that), but people are there for the football. The band is there to enhance the atmosphere, not change it. The band shouldn't try and inspire everyone to link hands and sing kumbaya or bells of ISU. Y'all are like referees...if we don't *notice* that you're there, you're doing a good job.

Re: Marching Band
Anyways, in response to myself, I'll look forward to seeing it live in a few weeks.
I actually like the new formations and the idea of a new sequence. Anything that adds character and individuality to our pregame, music, and our band is A+. I just think taking away so much high-step is a major downgrade, given our step was unique in the country, and looks really badass when done correctly.

As far as Call me maybe.... it's been at the top of the rankings all summer... its going to get played. Beats playing only a bunch of 20 year old music.
I love the ISU marching band but prefer traditional rousing marches...etc
I loathe the last 20 years we have to listen to Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Or some movie score the ISU band director seems to think will sound good. They aren't inspiring, and sound awful

Our youngest was 4-5 months old during football games last year--she saw more wins at Jack Trice in three months than I did in three years.
And yes, in MY day all we did was high step.

Pepper Brooks is shocked by this news.

Re: Marching Band
The pregame is all about building excitement up to the kick-off. I can appreciate the "tradition" aspect, but the Bells of Iowa State was a total downer when it was played after the National Anthem. I thought so at the game on Saturday and watching the video this morning- I still feel the same.
Play it before the national anthem, play it after the game, I don't care. After the national anthem it's a wet blanket.

Speaking of, I think this is the first game I've been to where I didn't hear the band play either Basket Case or All the Small Things. I was disappointed.
While I like the Bells of Iowa State, I've honestly never heard any of it during pregame. It would be hard enough to hear on the east side even if everybody was quiet, but people in the student section don't even try to shut up while its playing.
