I don't believe we can wear the Gold on the road with the other team wearing a dark color as well. Our Gold is too much of a dark to be considered a light, if any of that makes sense.
Did you see the Tennessee/North Carolina State game last week? "Neutral" field, in Atlanta, Tennessee wore home creamsicle orange, NC State wore home red (with red pants, too, I believe). So, yeah, as long as they contrast, you could do it, and gold would definitely contrast with Iowa black.
Of course, it looked really bizarre, so I'm not saying it's a good idea. But it's apparently not against the rules.
I'm very anti the gold at Kinnick. You can't go into Iowa wearing gold, especially if they are wearing black. It'll look like a squakeye practice game. (gold winning of course).
