Durrell Givens was everywhere
Does anyone have a link to the defensive stats? It seems like Durrell Givens was absolutely everywhere. Lots of tackles. I had him in a creative writing class last year and he was a really cool, so I'm happy for him!

Re: Durrell Givens was everywhere
Last year I though Jared Brackens would be our starting SS this year, but Givens has really stepped his game up. He has been everywhere in both games so for this year.

He led the team in tackles today with 9 total, 7 solo and 2 assisted. Awesome!

I talked to him today: it was just another day at the office for him, he said. What a humble player.

I believe that others, including possibly some on the coaching staff, also thought that Brackens would slide into the SS slot. There's a reason that he didn't redshirt last year. Givens has been a pleasant surprise. He always had the physical talent - he just needed time for the game to slow down for him.
Hopefully Brackens can make the same progress and elevate his game for next year.

We have smart, athletic, and tough DBs. I think we are going to slow down some high powered Big 12 offenses.

“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.” -

Givens was awesome. Lot of guys on defense played well.
Maggitt got a lot of pressure, did a lot of good things. George was awesome. Jake McD was almost unblockable, he was all over the place. Henry Simon did a good job when he was in there. Really a good effort all around. I just love how ISU plays defense now. Just so much more physical and quick than I have ever seen before.

Re: Durrell Givens was everywhere
I was real impressed with the way the secondary would stay with the receivers and time their hits precisely to disrupt the completion. Might have gotten into the heads of the Iowa receivers late in the game and contributed to all those dropped passes (or maybe Iowa's receivers just weren't that great).
It was also great to finally see the DL get their mitts up and disrupt those throwing lanes.
Defense is looking good. Starting to remind me a bit of that 2005 group.

Anyone know if Brackens has played this year? I don't see any stats for him, I think it would be awesome if we have enough depth that we could end up redshirting him this year.

I re-watched the Iowa game and it appeared we were getting pretty decent pressure/hurries late in the game. Probably due to rotation and fresh legs. Also thought there were several holding calls that were missed, but didn't really expect to get them called in Iowa $#itty.
