We missed Jeff Woody BAD today

Does anyone know his health situation? Will he be able to play soon?

I just absolutely HATE the zone read inside the opponent's 5 yd line. Get under center, and play power football.

I wonder if it wouldn't be smarter to put in Barnett down there if we're going to do the zone read that close to the endzone? Steele just isn't very good at running it.

I don't know what the answer is, but not scoring inside Iowa's 10 yd line could have easily cost us the game today in a game where there was no way we should lose it.

Agree that would have been a different game with Woody, although I think he got in once.

Great news is we don't need him this week, and then we have a bye.

Get healthy big man and come back with a VENGEANCE!!

In my opinion, I think we're missing a receiver or two that we're confident to throw to against 1-on-1 coverage in the end zone. I think that's going to be our main problem in the red zone this year.

It could've been Barry Sanders and it wouldn't have mattered. The defensive line was in the backfield waiting for the zone read when we were in the redzone.

Yeah, I agree on the WR thing too. I can't imagine that Aaron Horne, Josh Lenz, and Jarvis West make the best targets out there on the field? It's amazing Steele can even see these guys as short as they are.

It shouldn't take Woody in the game to score from the 2. In fact, if he only comes in in short yardage situations, I think it just tells the opponent what we are going to run.

I wish we had a traditional I formation, with a fullback, that we could run in short yardage. Don't have to run it, you can still pass out of that set.

Re: We missed Jeff Woody BAD today

Woody has a bum ankle I think, but I would agree we are missing our goal line go-to guy. It shows by a wide margin. Our OL looks more comfortable in pass protection today, and I thought they wore down as the game went on so a late push was going to be difficult. We need some work on our short yardage situations and need to get better with a pistol look. If we're intent on going shotgun, then we need to look at leveraging the 6-3, 225 QB who can run and start doing more QB keeper. I think we're just trying to limp by until Woody is healthy, honestly.

I think they did miss Woody, but I'm not sure he would have done better against some of those 9 or 10 man fronts. I kept expecting them to check to play action but they didn't.

James White can run the power plays. Thats not the issue, its the line surge. Sometimes they had it, others they didn't. Backs started dancing a little too much not knowing whether the surge would be there, I didn't like that

Bring in the biggest D-Lineman we have. Think Refrigerator Perry

The running back/quarterback/receivers/line aren't the main problem in the redzone. The play calling is. Iowa puts 9 in the box with single coverage outside and we decide to run the zone read.
