I think in terms of success UNI has had at the level of competition they play, absolutely they are the best football team in the state. Are they they most talented team in the state? Absolutely not. However, I think they have proven throughout the past few years that they don't care and they will go toe to toe with the big boys and throw a few punches.
I wouldn't go so far as to say they are unequivocally the best team in the state.... The only way to determine that is if we went head to head with them.. The point of the thread isn't to take anything away from UNI, but to point out how hard U of I fans will go, to try and de-legitimize our victory over them, and to make themselves feel a little bit better...... I was pointing this out NOT because I am worried about it, but just to point it out as a bit of humor. I really don't take it as a slap to the face..... but most hawk fans think it IS.. without trying to be so obtuse.
I had someone at work tell me this same thing yesterday, couldn't believe it. I was ****** they were given a TD in the 1st place. Can't believe the refs didn't see he stepped out of bounds in real time. Very obvious.
I usually can't stomach Ferentz but he said early on after the game that his guy clearly stepped out. No doubt he knew the fan base would be crying over that. Obviously didn't help much.
Actually, it has become even funnier than all of this.
I was reading rivals hawk board, and went to the rivalry section, and these two genetic misfits started arguing that Iowa State only won because of the replay officials overturning Davis's TD.
You really can't make this stuff up.
Well technically they are correct. If the replay officials screw up that easy and obvious overturn call, it would be advantage Iowa.
They did do everything they could for Iowa, though. They rounded down to the 3 yard line even though he went out at the 3 1/2.
"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr
