Re: Turnovers
I am not so sure, at some point you wonder if that's just who we (I'm looking at you, Jantz) are.
Has this point ever been asked in any press conferences?

Alot, we had double the penalties Saturday from what they have had in the other 2 games. But you get players in there that have not played and you will have that.

Re: Turnovers
We've done pretty decent cutting out the boneheaded penalties, a holding here and there or a false start I can live with, it was the late hits, unsportsmanlike conducts, etc. that are really frustrating.

We can throw to the outside shallow really well. That is about it. Anything deep and over the middle is a crapshoot. So, we better be able to run better for the conference.

Re: Turnovers
Jantz's fumble was a good hit by the linebacker on a scramble and it looked like Jantz didn't have it as high and tight as he could have. Decent football play mixed with a little carelessness. Something to work on for sure.
Of all of Jantz's interceptions only have two have been bad reads/decisions/trusting his arm too much and those were the two against Iowa. Everything else has been high and tipped or just tipped. Again, you can eliminate the careless ones and work on mechanics to solve the high throwing issue, which has always been a problem of his. Just less so now.
As long as he keeps getting high percentage throws and keeps us out of 3rd and 8+ situations we'll be ok on turnovers. It's when we have to go over the middle on obvious passing plays that we start to get into trouble with his decision making.

I thought the leg whip on SJ was a bit of a head scratcher because I don't know the last time I have seen that called. Probably a good call but kind of odd.

Just trying to get an idea of what happened on the field. Also, the D needs to start forcing some TOs too. Granted, WIU couldn't really do much on offense so there probably weren't many opportunities to create turnovers. Correct... That INT was not Steele's fault. It was more of a result of West and Gary running both of their routes into each other. Still though he should not have had that fumble.

That kind of stuff annoys me because its trivial on the refs part. The stuff that always got me was the KO guaranteed penalty every other play and the occasional "not using your brain" stuff like unsportsmanlike conduct.

Yeah I agree those are the worst because there really isn't an excuse for them and it seemed the personal fouls would come at the worst time.

Re: Turnovers
2 balls that have gotten tipped and intercepted that should have been caught and Shontrelles fumble that clearly wasn't and our turnovers don't sound near as bad

Still though he should not have had that fumble. I don't remember which receiver was which on the INT, but it looked to me like the pass was too high for the first receiver (who tipped it) and it would have been behind the the second receiver if that's who it had been intended for. The route running looked a little suspect, but the throw was not ideal either.

Right now, we have 14 penalties for 133 yards (4.7 and 44.3 yards per game). Last year we averaged 6.8 per game with 52.3 ypg (cfbstats.com is great). So yes, so far we are cutting down on penalties.
