Re: Turnovers
I think our offense will improve as the year goes on. Seems the units Mess coaches tend to do that.

Re: Turnovers
Our defense will give us the opportunity to win 8 games or more. Unfortunately, if our offense continues to turn the ball over like it has, we will win 5 or 6.

Re: Turnovers
Jantz's 70% plus completion rate is great improvement from last season. It seems to me that fumbles have been the bigger issue with turnovers as opposed to interceptions. Either way though, we will be a better team if we take better care of the ball.

If Jantz is not good at running the read option, then it shouldn't be surprising that turnovers continue if we keep making him run that. Steele has only had one turnover running the zone read (at Iowa). The fumble the other night he was running downfield and stretched the ball out.
Zone read is our bread and butter running play. Pistol has not worked for us yet (as in not more than a 2 yard gain) when we have run it.
We'll be fine, look at the other position groups Mess has coached here at ISU, all turned out to play pretty good, especially special teams.

True, it would have been nice to see JB get some reps with the first team OL, but he clearly made some bad decisions that were completely on him and he looked very rusty. The near pick to the DE could have been a disaster, and that play is DESIGNED to draw in the DL. That one was all JB.

They didn't replay it so I couldn't tell for sure. Someone correct me if im wrong. BTW, whoever that RT is has a rough night against that DE. He was the cause of a lot of the pressure JB was getting.

Barnett's pick over the middle was exactly what I thought it was when I saw it live: an adjustment by WIU based on film and a bad route by Bundrage.
WIU moved their coverage to the middle and Bundrage originally ran what looked like a hitch and then came into the middle of the field. Ball was kind of late/Bundrage wasn't there. Three WIU guys made the pick look completely awful.

On the play he checked to Bundrage on the fade they rolled to wide side and manned tge short side. probably expecting a bubble screen
