Turnovers

We are 25% of the way through the season and the continued turnovers has me worried. Thanks to the defense and Jake Knott for not letting the turnovers against Iowa cost us the game.

So far, we've been able to overcome them but come Big 12 season, we really need those cleaned up or its going to bite us big time.

We are 108th in the nation with 8 turnovers (10 leads the country). I know I'm stating the obvious, but hopefully we greatly improve heading into the conference season.

While the defense has been great, they have been average at forcing turnovers (tied for 52nd with 5).

I know we are 3-0 and that's all that matters...I just hope the turnovers don't continue and cost us a game or 2.

Just win baby

Iowa was so bad, they could not make us pay for the TOs. We were sloppy with the ball last year and it has continued into this year so yes, I am quite worried about it. Some people seem to think it is just carelessness -- like locking your keys in the car or something. I am not so sure, at some point you wonder if that's just who we (I'm looking at you, Jantz) are.

It'll kill us if it doesn't get corrected. There is no question of that fact.

This is what scares me.

I see that as the only thing standing in the way of an 8-9 win season.

I think thats what frustrates me the most. We have a ton of experience and some above talent with so much potential. Tighten this junk up and we could be a major threat.

I think by week three you have a pretty good idea of what your team is going to be like. Im not saying that some games wont look better or worse than others but as far as Turnovers and penalties go by this point in the season you are who you are, (key the Denny Green clip "THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!).

Last year people kept saying that the false starts etc would be taken care of, the reality is that was just part of our teams identity, it continued throughout the whole year. Fortunately I do think for the most part the penalties have gotten better although for whatever reason WIU game was higher than I would like to see.

I personally (unfortunately) think that we will continue to turn the ball over. Jantz is just that guy, he will try to force some passes and fumbles on occasion. Rhoads feels that he is our best option to win so we are going to have to live with his faults whatever they might be.

I think the amount of turnovers is a little alarming but I think Jantz is able to keep his composure and not let a turnover affect him nearly as much as last year. Also it looks like he hasn't tried to force as many passes as he did last year either.

We have the same questions heading into Big 12 play as we had last year. Granted our offense is playing better and so is our defense but we still have questions on the turnovers. Cut them down and we have a shot to have a special season.

I certainly agree with this and his accuracy on short to intermediate throws is much improved.

Agreed. As long as he keeps making adjustments and keeps calm, he will be ok.

Much less concerned about the manner in which most of the INT's have occurred thus far in comparison to last year. INTs are going to happen, especially when you compress the field as much as we do.
The fumbles are alarming.

It sounded like Jantz's interception was another tipped pass and not necessarily a bad throw (correct me, I was home sick listening on the radio). The fumble sounded like carelessness? Barnett won't be in games at this point unless the game is not in doubt (or something happens like last year). Just trying to get an idea of what happened on the field. Also, the D needs to start forcing some TOs too. Granted, WIU couldn't really do much on offense so there probably weren't many opportunities to create turnovers.

Can anyone tell me about the fumble by Jantz? Was it his fault on the zone read again like against Iowa?
