Re: This is a REAL problem... WTF?

I have hillside tickets and was involved in a somewhat similar situation while on the SW hillside during the first drive of the Tulsa game. No one in front of us sat down after kickoff so we stayed standing as well... a few plays into the drive a middle-aged woman comes up and sort of sharply asks us to sit down because they can't see the video screen without standing up. My response was to tell her to stand up then... at which point she accused us of being the only ones in the section not sitting down (not at all the case--we were at least half way up the hillside and the vast majority of people in front of us were standing). I explained that if we sat down we couldn't see the game, and offered to let them come sit in front of us (they didn't). My gf was pretty sure she heard the guy she was with making remarks in our direction prior to the confrontation, as well, but I can't say that for sure as I was watching the game and not really paying that much attention.

Not any huge deal, but did sort of rub me the wrong way... I thought it was an unwritten rule that if someone in front of you at a sporting event stands up you either do the same or deal with it. If you want to sit on your hands or see the action on a screen you can do so comfortably from your living room.

Truth be told, standing in those narrow spots for the whole game is torture on my old legs. Have some respect, scream while sitting :)

When the SEZ gets bowled in they need to add a concourse for these people to stand the whole game. Just make it an area that's available so others who don't want to or can't stand don't have someone like this in their section.

I've attended numerous games as a hillside ticket holder and the only time I've sat down is between quarters or half time. People seem to be stuck in the old days of having room on the hillside bring a blanket and a picnic basket. Problem is there are a few more than 38,000 people in the stadium now. You are legitimately crammed on the hillside nowadays for what could be called 'standing' room only. Ya, it sucks and your knees hurt from the uneven ground, but if you don't like it, buy a seat. I guarantee whoever out there decides how many people they can jam on the hills doesn't do so by figuring how many sitting people they can put out there.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

You forgot kneeling. Although I wouldn't admit to being a pro at kneeling either.

Stand at your own risk on non "key" situations. My Grandad will find you, and he will kill you. He stacked punks like this 10' high in Korea.

All kidding aside, he will seriously walk down 15 rows and call you out. I get a kick out of watching him.

I don't have a problem with the people standing in front of me it is the ones that are behind me that make me nervous. I feel they are judging my fanhood because I choose not to stand.

Ok us older people have to sit during the game. My legs can't stand the whole game anymore. So sick of people going withthe "you are not a good fan unless you are standing" routine. We stand and cheer when we need to. I and many others can't physically stand the whole game. I umderstand the argument if you are a student. Not a grown adult.

My season tickets are in the southeast stands section 20 I wasn't at the WIU game but for the Tulsa game I was shocked how many people in our section were sitting down. I have had the same seats for the last 7 years and everyone in section 19, 20, 21 normally stand the whole game. We stood the whole game except quarters and timeouts. When people sit it seems to deflate the crowd which happened in the Tulsa game and my buddy who was at the WIU said there was no energy in the crowd and they were sitting on their hands.

I like it when people stand it seems to keep them into the game more and off their hands. I sat about half the time during the Tulsa game out of respect for other peopoe but was up and down with excitement and kept hearing comments every time I jumped up when something happened.

You know what I'd like to see? Let's have JP designate a section for both types of people: The "YOU HAVE TO STAND UP THE WHOLE GAME OR YOU'RE NOT A REAL FAN!" d-bags, and the "You should never stand up during a game" d-bags.

Let them fight it out in their own designated section and leave the rest of us alone. A pox on both your houses.

Maybe if you can't physically stand the whole game, you'll have to pick and choose the "unimportant" plays of the game to strategically take a break in
