Personally I think the current helmet is better than most (maybe all) in the past 36 years I have seen. There have been some pretty horrific helmets in the past.

Unfortunately the other ugly helmets have a long history (sorry notre dame you are boring)

The point about the bird in a blender was raised when we changed to I-State as was the fact that there are no fewer than 3 other schools that can be I-State. It was a good change as everyone needlessly hated on the bird for being too different (we ended up on several of these lists back then) I say we just complete what every hawk says we already tried to do and put a Trojan-esque picture of Cy on our helmets.

Problem solved, can't hate on that for being ugly without calling USC ugly as well... and that wont happen

'76-'78 were the best of all, in my opinion. The Johnny Majors helmets of the early 70's were pretty cool too, what with the alternate colors.

One problem I have with this list is that ISU always appeared on these lists with the last helmet design. We just can't please people.

And that is one more thing I like about CPR. He discontinued the long standing tradition of a new coach bringing a new helmet with him, and just stuck with our current design.

The helmets aren't bad at all and I don't mind them. That being said, I think we can do much better.

ISU's helmets are pretty bad.

The helmets ISU wore in the throwback game a few years ago were the best and they should have kept them.

Boise State or Oregon State should be on that list.

I have mixed feelings about ours. I like the kind of brand we have for football, but I'd love to somehow throw a tornado of some sort out there. We are the Cyclones after all. I'd love to see a tornado make a comeback.

Not against our current helmets though.

At this point just stick to a design. If you are successful you can put a woman's reproductive organs on your helmet and people will come to accept it.
