The Minnesota back up QB isn't too bad. He's a big guy and has a big time arm. I think he might give the Iowa defense fits.

Kirk Ferentz seems to have the mojo to motivate his team when their backs are against the wall & they're expected to lose. I think it's a tough one, but Iowa will prevail. Then the drunken tavernhoks in the stands will flash back to that game in the Metrodome, tear down the North end zone goalpost, and take it out to the Coralville Mall to try & fit it through the double-doors.

I don't know how good MN throws the ball, and that is key. The Hawks pass defense has been pretty bad this year, which makes me a little disappointed in JS. After rewatching the game there were several times when ISU guys were running wide open and he either missed them with the pass or did not see them at all. The new DC for Iowa is trying to be aggressive by doing some blitzing and cover zero stuff, but the Iowa DB have not looked good on an island so far. If the Gophers try to run at Iowa they will lose. If they can pass they will probalby win.

My gut tells me the Hawks will win: they are at home, they are desperate, Minnesota is not Alabama, etc. They won't win by 21 - not unless the Goofers drop the ball about 6 times.

That said, my head tells me that Iowa is really really bad. ISU played awful, and Iowa couldn't win at home. Central Meatchicken is turrible and Iowa couldn't win at home. Maybe Iowa is just SO bad they can't beat ANYONE, even at home.

In this series, it always seems to me that the WORSE team wins this game every year, although that was when it was the last game of the season. Having it first is different maybe.

It will be interesting to see how the Iowa 3rd string fullback runs today. He looked pretty good against UNI and CMU, but I don't think either one of those teams is very good against a power running game.

Iowa wins, but Minnesota goes on to have a good season. Iowa struggles to get to 6 wins. Minnesota fans can be heard saying, "It was their Super Bowl".
