I don't have the patience to read this whole thread after driving back to Omaha from Ames tonight. Jantz sucked on reading the zone read and on that fumble (da** that sucked) and he did miss a couple of short routes badly, but he was getting killed by blitzes and by the d-line a lot. That o-line had a number of WTF moments, especially in the second half when the game was still one score. Some of that was Tech, but (&^^%$$## if we don't suck on offense after a bye week. Receivers almost didn't touch a ball. If you benched everyone on offense who had a bad game today, our bench would be full.

Was Messingham up in the booth for this game? Guys in our section said he was. If so, go back to him being on the field. He didn't call that good of a game from up there. Take away two drives (TD and missed field goal) and our offense had almost nothing the whole game. Blame the QB if you want, but that my friends starts with the coaches.

Defense wins championships... but not when you have Steele Jantz as your starting QB... and Jared Barnett as your backup. SMH were screwed. It's time to start Sam Richardson, or Grant Rohach, or find a way to make Joel Lanning eligible to play right now.

I would love to quote all of you on the first two pages of this thread, but that would take too long.
I just want to say it's great to see so many aspiring coaches who can see how bad the play calling was and how bad the team was.
This is a good team. TTU had the right game plan, and I for one think we can beat TCU next week. Go clones!

The next time Iowa State has a "really good" QB, will be the first one. Sage relied on a good running game. Seneca relied on some type of magic that disappeared in his last season. Flynn was... a WR. Meyer was average at best. Arnaud was Meyer at best. Tiller was... a WR. Jantz is either really good or realllly bad. Barnett can run, but can't pass. We've had some good game managers and leaders at QB, but never a really good QB.

You are nuts to not consider Sage and Seneca to be really good QB's. Name a really good QB that had less talent around them than those two?

I'm with you. But the coaches and players on the O side need to step up a lot more and the D needs to keep plugging away like tonight. We get even more out of the O and we could win a lot of games yet this year.

I'm sorry, but if you have more INT's than TD's and have less than 60% completion percentage, you aren't a really good QB.

And with that I'm off to bed, way too drunk from this loss.

    They lose, I booze!

Jantz wasn't the only reason for the loss, but he had some really bad plays with little explanation. The game was over when he literally dropped the ball. I've used the phrase dropped the ball as a metaphor, but Jantz literally dropped the ball tonight. But again, he wasn't the only reason for the loss.

Messingham isn't the only reason for the loss, but how do you not give your struggling quarterback some easy completions via bubble screens when the passing game looks awful? You see what's going on out there, and your quarterback is clearly not comfortable with what's happening. Throw him a bone with an easy play that can build his confidence in his accuracy. 3 passing yards in the first half? Unbelievable.

The offensive line isn't the only reason for the loss, but you have to adjust to what happens on the field. The offensive line was outsmarted, and Steele had few options as a result.

Those are the three problems I noticed. Overall, I'm not going to freak out about this game. It was a bad game offensively. Nothing went right. We've seen better, and Steele, Mess, and the whole team will learn from it. If a trend appears, we're in trouble. In the mean time, TCU is a very beatable team, and I'm looking forward to Steele making this thread look like a bunch of drunken ******** in a week.

Couple of guys who got drafted(something fairly rare for ISU) and have had fairly successful NFL careers. Yet somehow they weren't good?

Last year I was totally convinced that with Steele Kantz at qb we would have NOT made a bowl game and WE would have LOST to both Tx Tech and Okie State.

If Steele Kantz keeps playing like this we are looking at a Six game Losing Streak and their goes the season. Again

Lanning is a very good football player. I dont think he will ever take a snap at qb in a D1 game though.

Ok I slept on what happened last night and I feel worse this morning about it than last night. Im tired of everyone saying how bad the whole O was. DOSENT MATTER. Steele was lost and couldnt hit an open receiver, AN OPEN RECEIVER. No neither could I but I wasnt brought in to play qb. It wasnt like he didnt see them either, he threw to them. Wasnt like the deep route tough to hit man in stride, it was short routes! 73 yard 73 YARDS OF PASSING! WTF WTF WTF! Yes it one bad game, oh wait not one bad game, there was one good against a cupcake team. I was behind CPR when he decided jantz but he did preface that with a we will revisit if there is issues. WELL THERE ARE ISSUES REVISIT. Sorry jantz and thanks but I thought your ceiling was higher, its not, now that your trying to game manage instead of improvise big plays, you're really outside your element and still making the same mistakes. MAKE a CHANGE IT CANT GO ANY WORSE.

SJ must have injured his foot again. That was the reason he was terrible last year so that must be the reason this year, right?
