I would call this game a must-win, but for a reason outside of strictly wins and losses. Last week, we hosted TT with the mindset of an easy win due to two straight victories (one lopsided) and little, if any, improvement on TT's side. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. Not only did it not happen, but it was probably our worst output of the year.
The Defense played well, the offense (and overall team) did not. These guys need to play a good game on all cylinders not only to boost their confidence for the tough conference schedule ahead, but because of what's expected of them in this, the "turn the corner" year. I think they'll get it done.
It presents a good matchup, so it isn't a must win but it is another game where we shouldn't be shocked if ISU does go into Fort Worth and get the W. I hate to make this game all about a couple individuals, but this game might be the defining moment of Messingham's season and Steele Jantz's ISU career. Can Mess call a game that suits his QB's abilities and takes advantage of what the opposing D is doing? And can Steele carry out that game plan and play mistake free? If the answer to both those questions is yes, then we're in for a fun second half of the season. If not, it's another long week of second guessing and armchair coaching here at CF.
The have played teams with a winning percentage of .138 and struggled against them with the exception of Grambling.
They suspended their starting quarter back. down to a 3rd string tail back
They have lost 20% of their roster since spring ball due to suspension or injury.
Starting roster is made up of mostly freshmen and sophs.
Must win, well put it this way, ISU has been given a very good opportunity here, if they
blow it , then they will have to beat at least 1 ranked team along the way, to
become bowl eligible.. Would argue TCU is by far the weakest of the ranked teams we play.
I've got an idea for the site. If someone calls a game a "must win" and we lose, they shouldn't be allowed to use that term again for the year..then somehow censor it if they try. Have it come out "this game is a **** ***". Get them to stop exaggerating. There are many big games in a season. Thats what you call them. Big games. That must win crap in this situation is a big pet peeve of mine. Don't know why.
If we lose this game, we wont be going bowling. So yes, it is a must win if we want to see the post-season.
maybe, just ******* kick their ***, but the offense just pisses me off get your **** together offense and coordinator.
If we do not win this weekend, I am not expecting much the rest of the season. We have opportunities in front of us that have developed lately on the TCU team and if we do not take the frog by the horn we should be upset.
I wouldn't call losing to TCU and then beating KSU a "very possible scenario".
Point is, we can't afford to lose opportunities when they are presented to us. One of those opportunities is this weekend, of which we can't afford to lose.
If we are losing against our "easier" competition, why should we expect to pick up wins against the likes of Texas, West Virginia, OU etc...?
I hate the must win mantra this early. Makes it seem like you've mailed it in already and chalked up future games as Ls.
