kickoff coverage
Who's in charge of this now, and was mess in charge last year? Is Leo that big of a loss? That and kicking has been for lack of a better word terrible this year. It's a real momentum killer to score a Td and then let them run kicks back to the 45 every time.
Sorry for being negative after a big win. The kicking woes are likely to continue, hope we can fix the coverage issues.

Re: kickoff coverage
This. If nothing else, squib down the middle or a pop fly to an up man.

Re: kickoff coverage
Kstate kills it on special teams so its defiantly something that needs to be figured out now

Re: kickoff coverage
Is an out of bounds come out to the 35 or 40? Might be something to think about.

Re: kickoff coverage
I think out of bounds goes to 40 so its a wash. Thought arceo had a bigger leg and could get some touhbacks. I'm all for pop UPS to an up man.

Re: kickoff coverage
I should note, it seemed earlier in the year we were kicking it up to get our guys down there for coverage and that seems to proven true given the low averages against Iowa, Western Illinois and Tech. Seems like that wasn't the case yesterday and TCU was able to get it up to the 20 or so before we had guys in the area.
I think Rhoads probably had faith in the return coverage that if we kick it high and get guys down there to prevent a return past the 25 it was worth it. The safe route is to just kick it out the back or in the end zone but we know Rhoads to be a little bit of a gambler.

Re: kickoff coverage
Can't believe we kept kicking to Dawson, dude is lighting fast and we never tested the other guy.

Re: kickoff coverage
Wouldn't mind some squib kicks.

Re: kickoff coverage
The last few years Mess coached Kickoff Return and Punt Coverage, while Shane Burnham coached Kickoff Coverage and Punt Return. Rhoads handles the kickers. Now I think Shane still has KOC and PR, while I believe Sturdy has the KR and PC teams but not positive on that.
The fact that the line of scrimmage for a kick has moved up 5 yards and we can't get it into the endzone unless we have the wind at our back needs to change.

Seemed like coverage not great, and kicker was short on kickoffs. I remember being surprised by that since you kind of count on them winning that phase of the game. Could be wrong, maybe it was just an off night for them.

Re: kickoff coverage
This must get figured out immediately, Lockett for K-state, is an absolute stud on kick returns, he made us pay last year. I honestly think that almost every team on the schedule has a decent returner.... I know that game at the end of the year will be rough with Austin if we don't figure it out???

Is that a fact? Are you sure that Rhoads isn't asking him to boot it high and just short of the goal line in some situations and kick it deep into the endzone on others? It seems like Arceo kicks it deep when situationally it might be demanded except yesterday they allowed a return a couple more times than I expected after allowing good returns. There are many times this season that the kicking team has stopped the return short of the 25. I'm not convinced that CPR isn't trying to give the other team a longer field since they touchback moved to the 25.
