Re: Barnett took full advantage of his time on the sideline

i never played football so i have no clue, so can someone clue me in on the signals? JB said that Lenz gave him the slant route signal. If you were a coach and read this and went and looked back at the tape, would you be able to see the signal and then show your defense and use it against the offense? Or do those signals get switched up every game and/or multiple signals can mean the same thing?

again sorry for sounding dumb but as i said i've never played organized football and so i am clueless.

Re: Barnett took full advantage of his time on the sideline

Couple drops by WRs & I think Barnett also missed a couple read options (should have kept rather than give, & vice versa). Not to be a negative Nancy, but there is a lot for him to improve upon, too.

Best thing was decision making & just the 1 turnover. Thought Lenz was open in 1 on 1 coverage versus Tech. Steele didn't try to get it to him. I think @ QB there are times (especially in 1 on 1 situations) where you trust your guy.

Would assume they are like baseball signals & you have to change them up for each game (so as not to have the opponent steal signs).
Just assuming. Someone in the know here verify?

I expected to see Jantz and Horne work together more like this. They had incredible stats before so they must have been able to get in sync with each other.

And this is why Barnett is our guy. He knows how to make this offense better. I love the tempo statement, he made sure they could not get guys out of there and played to the offenses advantage. I hope he continues to grow and hopefully next years race for qb is more about who is being smarter than who has the better arm.

As a receiver you can give the QB a signal based on how a guy is lined up on you or how the defense is set up. Signals like touching your facemask, tapping your leg or top of helmet, shaking your hands... pretty much anything. They can change at any time so its not so simple as just watching a game tape to steal the signals. Not as complex as baseball signals where usually you have an indicator. Signals to the QB are usually pretty simple as they have to see and react within the play clock.

Favorite part of the article, Lenz called the slant. Senior leader knowing what is going on and asking for the ball. Great stuff.

Re: Barnett took full advantage of his time on the sideline

After a big first game Lenz just didnt get the ball much. I didnt know if it was coverage or Jantz couldnt get the ball to him. Lenz is a good to great receiver and I hope Barnett keeps him as an option.
