Re: Should we go to dual kicker set?
When the difference between winning and losing is inches, kickers will win or lose you football games.
It's only a matter of time...
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -
Re: Should we go to dual kicker set?
We have not missed every extra point. I believe not more than 1 per game. Going for 2 every time is not the answer. Going for 2 after missing an extra point might not be a bad idea, but I am sure the odds are not favorable and "chasing that extra point all game may be a distraction and failing to get the 2 points puts us in a bigger hole. Better to just line up and kick it like CPR is doing unless at the end of the game, we need the 2 points.

Re: Should we go to dual kicker set?
We have to hit the 2 point conversion 41% of the time to break even on extra points at our current rate. We BARELY complete more than 50% of our passes. This year we probably don't even get 40% of our running plays over 3 yards and that's when you have the opposing safeties 20 yards off the ball. Now let's shrink the field and see if we can get it done.
Kick the extra point.

Re: Should we go to dual kicker set?
Just a crazy thought here but does Kirby have any experience with place kicking? All he has to do is punch it in from point blank. You'd think even with open tryouts with a student base of 30,000 there is at least 1 guy on campus capable of doing this 1 task.

Re: Should we go to dual kicker set?
I know I sound like a masochist when I say this, but I would like to see video of each of the misses. I know the last miss was a high snap that Beuker did an awesome job of getting down. I kind of wonder if Edwin struggles with the trust factor that a kicker has to have in that situation. A good kicker needs to block that out and go through his routine trusting that the holder is going to have it in place for him by the time his foot sweeps through. Some guys never learn to block out the huge distractions of other parts of the play not going smoothly. Anyone remember the other misses clearly?

I'm sure many could do it, but I'd guess the number diminishes quickly once you get them in pads, on gameday, on TV in front of thousands of people.

I also would like to get some analysis of the entire kicking process, not just assuming that Arceo screwed up. There are so many factors that go into a successful kick. What is really going on?

What is really going on? You can analyze it if you want but it's definitely on Arceo. My guess is a lack of focus and now confidence.

Re: Should we go to dual kicker set?
Did anyone else notice on our last PAT in the TCU game it looked like he took a LOT off the kick? Looked slow & wobbly, but it got the job done.
Maybe the coaches told him not to try to kill the ball on that one?

Re: Should we go to dual kicker set?
