Also, ISUFB, please do not ever change your avatar. * don't hunt me down if that's your wife or something They say that English surnames came from what you did with your life. I'm so glad my last name isn't Dickinson. -

Re: Oregon State?
Oregon State is undefeated and 4/5 wins are from AQ conferences. You would be surprised where ISU would be had it not lost to Tech.

Re: Oregon State?
Let them enjoy their time there. It won't last long.

Re: Oregon State?
The only reason they are underdogs is because they lost their qb. Are they the 10th best team in the nation? Probably not, but who gives a ****. Why do people care so much about the rankings seven weeks into the season???

Re: Oregon State?
OP, I thought the same thing when I saw their name scroll across the bottom last night while watching a terrible Colorado team.
You are not alone...(somebody que the MJ)

They deserve to be ranked highly because they've taken care of business. I'd rather have it that way than have some annual powerhouse be highly ranked on reputation alone.
OSU is ranked #10 despite being OSU. Kudos to them. But, at this point in the year it is pretty worthless.

Someone brought up Colorado.
Looks like we cleaned a lot of dead weight out of the conference.

Re: Oregon State?
A little bit ironic that we as Cyclone fans should question this, since they are going through the exact same scenario as we did in 2002. Average to above average talent, play a vastly overrated team to begin the year and get the nations attention by keeping it close (in this case, OSU won), and then take care of business in the next few weeks against teams with similiar talent.

Re: Oregon State?
Part of the reason Oregon State is a little more quick to get respect than Iowa State is because recently, they have had much more success on the field. OSU went from 1971 to 1998 without a winning season (including 9 years of winning only 1 or ZERO games) - a far longer futility streak than Iowa State has ever had. Dennis Erickson took over the program in 1999 and went 7-5, going to a small bowl. The next year, their only loss was by 3 at #11 Washington. They ended up 11-1, beat Notre Dame badly (41-9) in the Fiesta Bowl, tied for the Pac 10 championship, and were ranked #4 in the final poll. Sinc 1999, Oregon State has had nine winning seasons, gone to nine bowl games, and earned a 6-3 record in those bowls. In that span, they've also had four seasons of 9 or more wins (two 9 win seasons, one 10, and one 11).
If Iowa State would have had a history similar to that over the last fourteen seasons, we would be getting a little more respect than what we are from the pollsters. Although, ultimately, none of that really matters. All we have to do is keep winning, knocking off some big dogs along the way, and maintain a few seasons of success like we have not seen up to this point, and we will get noticed earlier in the season. It takes time and consistency to make a name for yourself in the football world.

Not really the same at all. Florida State who we played to the wire (don't think that didn't get us votes) and Texas Tech each won 9 games that year. Iowa won 11 games. Wisconsin and UCLA might get to 8 wins. We were also 6-1 when we got our top 10 ranking and had been to a bowl game the two previous seasons. Not 4-0 with a 3-9 season in the rear view mirror. If being undefeated is the key than we should have been ranked going into Tech since there was only something like 28 undefeated teams at that point and some of those were from lesser conferences. This isn't a list of the teams with the best winning percentage this is poll of who the best teams are. Oregon St should probably be ranked, but not at #10, I would say #22 or something. I don't know what people are thinking in ranking them that high.
