I've been reading about a struggling running game. I thought ISU was loaded with experienced running backs. Are they not producing or is a lack of a passing attack causing defenses to load the box, poor line play. I'm not ragging I just didn't see the game. Is this the first game struggling or has this been going on all year. As a Hawkeye fan I can sympathize with a poor passing attack.
1. The OL, while serviceable, just isn't as good at run blocking as it was last year (we're missing KO in that regard).
2. We're missing White, who's out with injury.
3. The pass game hasn't been convincing enough to keep defenses from playing a run-first defense.
4. We just got done playing 3 of the top 5 defenses in the Big 12 (TT, TCU, and K-State. Since ISU is one of them, we have one left - OU). We'll get a better evaluation of our running game the next several weeks as the defenses drop off considerably.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
Personally, it looks like rolling out JB (vs SJ) might work for some longer passes. We are our own worst enemy by going zone read so much on first down. If we had a stronger oline, run first down every time. That is not the case-IH.
Did we use full backfield, reverses, step left then run right, or swing passes much to Shontrelle? Need more of this to combat eight men in box.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.
i thought the play calling was decent today. compared to most games at least. we really missed white. he's a great north-south runner who can squirt through smaller holes. and he is a great receiver out of the backfield. shontrelle seems to try getting outside, and you cant do that against ksu. their defense is pretty fast.... that and the OL is just not very good.
