I have yet to see anybody bashing the band.. But I totally agree with Doc.

If a member of the band is going to whine about a big mean football player running by and yelling at them, they are kind of setting themselves up. If you're going to dish it out, take it just as easily. It's a non-issue so don't be a cry-baby..

Year before my time. I didn't show up until 2005, so the closest I came to band on opponent confrontations was when a band staff member inadvertently tripped that irate UNLV coach after that overtime game (2006?)

Why is the band talking smack to the other team or trying to distract them in Hilton when shooting freethrows? To get into their heads. If the players care enough to talk smack back - mission achieved! Take it as a compliment.
