OL play, is it just a little off or hopeless?
I have watched all of the games, been to a couple and I still do not have a great read on the OL play. The coaches keep talking about guys not playing well, not getting to the right place, skill players not executing correctly, but from what I can see the OL is basically getting man handled. Am I missing something the coaches are seeing? Does anyone else think it is just a matter of execution, and not that the line is getting overpowered?

I thought they gave great protection against KSU. I'm not sure we ran enough to establish anything on that.

We think there might be another reason the OL isn't quite as good this year.

I think it is the hardest position on the field to evaluate and I'm not certain there is anything that terribly wrong with it.

They've been pretty good in pass protection and pretty bad in the run game.

Biggest thing I've noticed is they suck at picking up stunts/blitzes and any kind of trickery by the defense.

Ben Bruns was on the Champ today and it sounds like the OL lacks consistency and execution sometimes.
He talked about a specific play where an OL man didn't scrape off properly from a KSU DL man that was already engaged to take on a LB. So instead of a 2 yd hole there should have been an 8 yd hole.

I pay attention to the OL. I would rate them above average on pass protection. And inconsistent on run blocking. (Often times it's hard to evaluate the OL's performance because of the defense "stacking the box".) If the defense can stop the run by plugging in numbers, and the offense is unable to make them pay for doing that, then it may look like the line is unable to open running lanes, but, in fact its not really the OL's fault. IMO.

Part of the problem against KSU was that they basically played vanilla defense the entire game and our offense still couldn't get much done against them. They didn't have to stack the box to control our running game and they could rush 4, drop 8 into coverage on passing plays which isn't a recipe for success.

Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

If every team is able to play 12 guys against us on D I don't like our chances.

I feel that extra blocker would be extremely useful! Someone needs to suggest this to the coaches as we are at a huge disadvantage.

Re: OL play, is it just a little off or hopeless?
But do we put the 12th guy out wide or line him up in the backfield for an extra blocker, or where do we put this extra guy. Seems like a good idea, but I wonder if the coaches have thought about this and how they would implement this type of strategy.
