Re: Until we recruit better players.....
It's perplexing? Kids want to win, and ISU hasn't done that enough over the past 25 years. We've had one "good" season where we went 8-3 with a bowl win. And even that wasn't a high-profile bowl due to the Big 12's poor bowl structure. Northwestern is located in a major metro area and went to the Rose Bowl and never turned that into extended success either. We'll have to establish ourselves as an average team before we can really start looking to make another move to a consistently good team (I'm talking the top 40 - top 20). We're still trying to prove we belong in the top 60. We haven't played at that level for a full season yet.

Looks like we need some juco receivers next year. Did we check out IWCC?
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Re: Until we recruit better players.....
its kind of a chicken or the egg thing..
each time we recruit a player who isn't 4 stars, comments ensue, "we won't recruit highly rated players until we win more games"

Re: Until we recruit better players.....
I think ISU has been recruiting better talent, especially at WR and OL, and I think it will start to show up in the next couple of seasons. It's just that the upgrade in talent is incremental so it's not like freshman are going to come in and beat out seasoned, but less talented, seniors.
Using BCS offers as a measure, ISU's starting OL has a combined 0 non-ISU BCS offers between them. The starting WRs have 1, I think. I think Dika, Williams, Burton, etc. have a potential to pass some of the other guys on the depth chart and upgrade the OL along with a more experienced Farniok and Gannon. Same with the freshman WRs.
Same thing on the defensive end. McDonough, Laing, Scott, Maggitt, etc. are good players, but the young D-lineman appear to have more raw talent -- but they aren't the kind of blue-chippers that are going to beat out seasoned, but less-talented juniors seniors. Cousins, Bevins, Rogers, Brackens, Lawry, Aka are all guys that have potential to upgrade talent level at some spots. They won't come in as freshman and blow you away, but they will eventually provide upgrades.

How the hell are they able to roll out effective QB's every freaking year and we can't find one in the last 10.

Re: Until we recruit better players.....
I agree that we are getting better slowly. Remember it took Mizzou and KU a while to build up to compete in the conference and I think CPR is ahead of that.
However I think we have to worry about the QB situation. That has not improved since CPR got here. And SR can't win the job and it's not because the bar is set so high. And it shouldn't be because he doesn't know the system. So I worry about our QBs more than other positions because of history and current performance.

Re: Until we recruit better players.....
yeah, How about Northwestern. They at least can move the ball every year. I don't think they have better talent on offense overall. But they do have better qb's than us year after year, better schemes, and better execution. We need better coaching, better schemes. If Northwestern can move the ball the way they do year after year.

Re: Until we recruit better players.....
you can have all the players you want, but our offense game day play plan sucks
