Vibe of the Team?

Reading through various meltdown analysis, picked up on a few points that are concerning.
1) Mess - if Rhoads is really in his ear giving play call advice - then does he have the confidence to call a decent game? Worse yet - if he is under pressure for his performance, does that translate to specific players that lose confidence such as QB?
2) What does an open compeitition after week 8 do for you at QB? The Coaches know what they have, why not just put all your support behind one and try to help his confidence?
3) Nealy throwing a tantrum seemingly directed at Jantz on a play that was destined for nowhere. I like the enthusiasm but that was not a good sight
4) Being close - Woody said in the postgame they are close. Maybe - it doesn't look that close especially in the run game.

Rhoads rallied the team after bigger beat downs last year, I think he can do it again but I am concerned about the confidence with Mess and the QB and how that translates to the rest of the offense. If they don't have confidence - it will be hard to get this thing going again.

That's the thing. Can the OLine turn it around and start giving this offense a chance? Which ever QB get's the nod, can they make the plays necessary? Are they doing in practice and just can't get over the nerves during game time? Are our WR's failing to do their jobs and get open? Horne and Young are the only ones that seem to be consistant. Bundrage had a decent game today and Brun has been fairly consistant. Lentz has his moments as a go to guy, especially TCU. Jarvis and Gary have been nonexistant. There might just be too many issues to save this team but I remain hopeful.

Plenty of specifics to consider, but what I saw today was a complete blowup of confidence and unity on the offense.

Rhoads needs to address that first. Without that, we may not see improvements with QB play, line play and play calling (or improvements that do happen may be negated).

young has been dropping passes like crazy lately. bundrage looked good today i thought... there was one play where barnett threw to tiller, and tiller looked like a slow offensive lineman trying to get to the ball. horne has been the only consistent reciever this year. james white has done great catching out of the backfield as well

i really liked what i saw from bundrage. The offense is in big trouble. They don't have a leader right now.

Exactly. I made the same point in a conversation with some friends. We have a large enough sample size to know that both QBs are lacking, obviously. Neither holds a clear edge over the other. That said, I think it makes sense to just go all in with one or the other. Give one of them as much game experience and "confidence" as possible and hope for the best. Going with the platoon approach and talking about a QB competition every week seems counter-productive.

The coaches have little to work with in terms of QB talent, but I haven't been thrilled with how they've managed it. They've been feeding the beast, so to speak, with this QB situation. Just come out and be honest about it- we don't have much, but we're gonna ride this guy. The solution to our problems isn't at the QB position this year. We need to get creative and find ways to win with who we have. Period. Get it done, or stay home during bowl season.

They've both flunked the test. Bring on Richardson and start working towards the future. They've already completely wasted the senior seasons of two of the best LBs to ever play at this school. No need to ruin next season by going through this **** again.

Yeah, one has to wonder. When asked if there were divisons forming on the team in the post game. He said, there may be some of that going on privately and that it would be human nature. He could have said "No, there are no divisions." But he didn't.

And watchign today, you could see guys on defense taking gambles at times, trying to pick off passes. The Nealy thing on the Jantz bad throw. And just overall it felt like Barnett just totally lost control of the offense today. Just felt like there was total panic on offense at times. Like they knew they were screwed, and there was no leadership to take control out there.

They need to get this under control, not only do you have defense blaming offense. But recievers blaming QB, QB blaming the line, line blaming QB and receivers.....etc. What happened today was not just a bad game, it was a total meltdown.

My biggest question at this point is whether or not Rhoads might have too much influence on all the specifics of the offense. He sounds like he's very "involved" on a play-by-play basis for the offense, and I wonder if that's the best method for a defensive minded coach. He's the head coach and it's his perogative to run whatever kind of offense he chooses. But there needs to be trust that his OC and assistants will be able to do the jobs for which they were hired. Micromanagement is rarely a good thing.
