Some hope going forward at the quarterback position
Elite 11: Grant Rohach - Rivals.com Video Moorpark High School 2010 Varsity Football - YouTube
Might be why we arent pursing a JUCO. I wonder how he is going to fit this offense. Not really a zone read guy. Anyone know did he change his number in high school?

Re: Some hope going forward at the quarterback position
If he's going to be that good we might drop the zone read stuff...at least not do it as often. I'm hoping the coaching staff would change the scheme to the players' strengths

Re: Some hope going forward at the quarterback position
Everyone always looks great on their HS highlight reels though. Sam Richardson looked just as good or better on his IMO. But I remember Jared Barnett's looked really good too.
It's really hard to tell how good they are going to be until you see them in action at the college level.
I'm hopeful that between Richardson and Rohach we have something? It's a little disheartening to think that Richardson might not be getting any playing time right now because maybe he's just not any better than JB or SJ though? That's scary if true. It would be hard to be much worse.

Re: Some hope going forward at the quarterback position
Alright here is what needs to happen. This offense needs to be simplified, so here are some of my recommendations. Instead of smaller wide receivers out there on the edge, put more tight ends into the game that are more bulkier to push people around for better blocking. It has been noted on here that the offense of line is having problems run blocking. Well how about before the ball is snap they put a hat on a hat and point to the guy they are blocking so everyone knows who they are going after.
My final recommendations is instead of putting a quarterback out there, Messingham choose a running back to run something similar to the wildcat and they just run it every down. In this offense its 10 vs 11 and it's the running back's responsibility to make that last guy miss. As long the offense gets 3.34 yards every play, they will move the chains. I don't see how this could possibly fail. (for the people who think I am serious.)
Do you know why I put up with this 'pitiful job', Mr. Donaghy, why I fetch these folks' lunches and clean up their barfs? Cause they make television. And more then jazz, or musical theater, or morbid obesity, television is the true American artform. -

I have friends who have family that play for the clones and also some low level coaches. They all say he is the starter next year. Take it for what its worth which isnt much.

But I get the sense he doesn't want to go that route.

Okay, I'm confused. I'm not showing Rohach as an ISU commit... Scout.com: Football Recruiting
Only as a prospect with a REALLY long and impressive offers list. Scout.com: Football Recruiting
Do you have a commitment?

Re: Some hope going forward at the quarterback position
As for the Elite Camp video... any high school QB can hit receivers with no defense.
However, his footwork looks pretty good for a high schooler and his release is quick; his motion is a little goofy, but if you can hit your WR in the chest, I don't care what the motion looks like.
In comparison, one of Barnett's biggest problems is his release. He tries to get the ball out quicker than his arm allows, causing his elbow to drop-- when your elbow drops, the balls will be thrown low. This is why is long balls are on target or close (he has time to go through his big wind up) and his 10-15 yard lasers, are coming at the receivers low.

Hopefully our receivers aren't like the receivers in that video...

Re: Some hope going forward at the quarterback position
I like his footwork and release. Looks poised in the pocket. Of course this is just at the high school level but I like what I see.

Re: Some hope going forward at the quarterback position
Is he actually supposed to be better that SR? I haven't heard to much on him this season during his redshirt.

Re: Some hope going forward at the quarterback position
Remember looking at his senior year video a while back and impressed by his ability to scramble for yards under pressure. He has an ability to see down the field while in the scramble and make plays.
He has the arm strength, the velocity, and the foot speed. And I like that he was all in as a cyclone from very early on. I'm pro rohach. Can't wait to see this kid suit up!
