Phil Bennett was a d coordinator at Kansas State under Bill Snyder. He did an excellent job. His first wife was struck and killed by lightning while jogging out by the stadium. He soon left for the head coaching job at SMU. He failed at SMU like most of the others that have had that job. It must be very difficult to succeed there without writing checks to players. Someone should ask Craig James how it was handled back when he was a player.
He is currently Baylor's defensive coordinator. He was our DC under Criner in the 80s. Anybody remember what his defenses were like in Ames?
I seem to recall some posts here that Criner's defenses were decent.

bennett was good at k-state when it was a loaded talented defensive unit. he plays a risky, in your face style that doesn't do well against teams like wvu or tech who can match it with over the top athletes. he is very likable, sincere and good man. emaw.
outsider's view. iowa state needs to run the damn ball, first. it is always too quick to chuck it down the field instead of playing more conservatively. i'd put that big assed back in there and beat people to death with him. your current running back brings no strength to the offense. good luck v. cubs.
