The Rutgers receiver didn't burn him, the Rutgers receiver was a foot taller (quite literally).

We hardly ever run cover 3. We run alot of cover 2 or will zone the wide side and man on the short side

Yeah you guys will adjust to C3 in trips formations by manning up the backside sometimes but it isn't like you guys are living in bump and run or anything like that.

From what I saw of ISU is you base 1 deep safety coverage vs conventional formations and will move to cover 2 or quarters variations against spread formations.

First off, you cannot employ one consistent strategy against this receiving corps as Baylor will adapt.

On plays and formations where tendencies have shown they will throw short to Williams you play him close with a linebacker cheating into the lane to take away any slant opportunities. We did this last year to Justin Blackmon. Bump and run would be the choice here but not every situation as it eventually opens up to a fade route.

On obvious passing downs you roll a safety over the top. This can be either Givens or Washington and Wally has shown looks in the past with rolling a safety from one hash to the other right before the snap.

Williams is going to get his yards but the key will be limiting his ability to get a hold of the deep ball and tackling him in space. His much faster than Blackmon ever was but that's where you start with covering him. Harp on Baylor's tendencies, scheme against them, and pray to God you can tackle him without him turning up field and getting loose.

It'll probably go a lot like last game against OSU, DB's getting burned and easy completions on simple crossing routes. OSU exposed our defense, if OSU didn't make mistakes on offense they would of scored probably 2-3 more TD's. Our defense is really salty, but they didn't play that great against OSU, gave up 600+ yards of offense.

Our D-line is really going to have to go after Florence and put pressure on him and force him to scramble and hopefully this will give our secondary a chance to shut down any deep balls and our LB time to cut off any slants or quick short passes.

And even the tall receiver didn't beat him. The throw was a goofy high looping throw that the tall Rutgers receiver caught with his hands out in front of him, not up high. Reeves just jumped a half step too early. And he broke up a similar play at the goal line earlier in the game. I hope they try to go at him. I've been waiting for him to get his Pick 6.

Re: How do we cover Terrance Williams

The question is does Baylor have as good of an O-Line as oSu? I think not and would go as far to say that oSu has the best O-Line in the XII. The thing that would kill us on D vs. oSu is that we would biltz and still couldn't get pressure on their QB. We came very close when we were playing man and would blitz to getting a pick 6 that would have likely turned the tide of the game as we were only down 14 with about 12 minutes to go. Instead, it ends up being a reception for them and draining more time off the clock. Plain and simple, our D lives and dies by our ability to force mistakes and if they are not causing those mistakes we will likely give up more points than we can score resulting in a loss.

We've got a good OL. We return 3 starters from last year and had 2 really good young tackles play really well so far.

The big difference between us and OSU on offense is that I think our guys like Williams & Reese are more dangerous, they have the better RB with Randle, and we have the much better QB. I wouldn't say either line is much better than the other.

Looks like all facets of Baylor's O are covered. Where do you feel is the weakest point of Baylor's offense that would be the place to attack while game planning on D for ISU.

The best thing for ISU would be for the DL to generate a 4 man pass rush consistently. I don't think it will happen but that makes a lot of things work a lot better.

I would make Florence beat me early in zones like Cover 3 that would be stout against the run before I concede numbers they can run against. If he's on his game then I'd move to 2 deep coverages and then try to slant, stunt, and blitz my outnumbered defensive front to try and make up for that schematic issue that ISU ran into last year against the run. I don't think ISU has the speed at safety to hold up vs the BU Wr's in single coverage.

If Baylor had a defense there's a great chance they could be in the top 15 right now, especially with how favorable there schedule has been thus far. They should of beaten WVU and Texas. Oh well. Baylor is a lot better then their 3-3 record indicates.

This is one thing that upsets me about ISU's D line is that we do not see a lot of stunts from them. We have the depth to keep guys fresh we just need to find ways to get to the QB. I will without a doubt say we will give up some yards on Sat. I know we will hold you far below your season average for points. We are a bend but don't break D and even when the ball is on our own 1 I am not surprised when we force a field goal. Our D will keep us in a game, its our O that will win or lose it for us. I look forward to seeing the matchup of our secondary vs. your WRs. I am confident they will play well with Jack Trice Stadium rockin' on a cccccooolllddd, fall night. I know ill be there loaded and screaming my *** off when Florence and company are on the field.
