Knott and Klein both made it on the field in the Cyclones first two games of their freshman year in 2009. But, the first time they each made the stat sheet was in Game 3, on the road at Kent State.
After a 22 yard Touchdown pass from Arnaud to Jake Williams in the 1st quarter, Grant Mahoney kicked off to Anthony Bowman of Kent State. Jake Knott and Joel Zitek wrestled Bowman to the ground at the 27 yard line. That was Knott's first tackle as a Cyclone.
With 50 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, Kent State's Andre Flowers was taken down after a 3 yard gain by A.J. Klein. This was Klein's first career tackle.
8 minutes left in the game...Iowa State led 34-7. Kent State had 1st and Goal at the 1 yard line. On first down, Kent State tried to pound it in. Jake Knott tackled Flowers 3 yards behind the line. That was Knott's first career tackle for loss. On second down, Kent State again tried to run into the end zone. This time, Knott tackled Flowers 4 yards behind the line. On third down, Kent State got smart and threw an 8 yard touchdown pass to make the score 34-14.
With 2:46 left in the game, A.J. Klein recovered a Kent State fumble and the Cyclones offense ran the clock out to win the game. Knott finished the game with 4 solo tackles, 2 assist, 6 total tackles. 2 for tackles for a loss of 7 yards.
Klein finished the game with 2 solo tackles and a fumble recovery.
Wow. I don't remember this game at all.
While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”
Game #1 of sophomore year was against Northern Illinois. Klein led the Cyclones with 15 tackles. Knott had 9 tackles, forced a fumble, and had 2 interceptions.
That set the tone for 3 years of greatness from this duo. Hopefully, we'll see them on the sidelines during their NFL bye weeks in years to come. So cool seeing James Reed, Matt Blair, Seneca, Sage and others getting into the mix this year. A true testiment to CPR.
