Ran into a group of players last night - totally impressed!!
Was at the Southeast Polk\Marshalltown playoff game last night. During the day a bunch of the SEP students and players started a Twitter thread trying to get AK47 to come watch them play. Sure enough as the game started here comes Jeff Woody (SEP alum), AJ Klein, Brett Bueker, Jordan Welch (SEP Alum) and a couple others and they sat in the end zone right in front of us. During the game a steady stream of kids came by to talk with them from 7th grade girls who wanted to see AJ's hair to half of the 9th grade fb team who wanted to talk football. In addition the quaterbacks from both teams who were playing came over and gave them high fives before and after half.
I cannot tell you how impressed I was with that group of players and the way they represented themselves and the CylconeNation. No egos or attitudes, just a bunch of 19-20 yr olds out having fun and taking the time to talk with everyone who came by. With guys like that, its easy to see why so many good things are happening with our fb program!!

Nice subtle recruiting/promotion of ISU, too.

Recruiting players and new fans just by appearing. Good work gentlemen!

Ran into a group of players a few years ago. I'll be out of prison next week. Hey, the gas pedal was stuck!

Sorry to hijack but I also noticed how attentive the captains were to their honorary captain Saturday night. It wasn't just,"OK, I've gotta hold this kid's hand and walk him out to midfield." They were attentive and caring and really tried to make their guest feel a part of things. What a thrill it must have been for that child. So proud of these Cyclones as PEOPLE.

They actually care about the kid and want it to be an experience they will remember forever.
Impressive story from the OP, that good PR for our program is awesome.

Was just going to say about promoting the school. Good job out of them.
As a father of a 3 very young kids (K-6)
There are kids in my kids class that are Die hard Cyclone\Hawk fans and then there are a bunch of undecided.
And trust me when I say this....when ISU wins and looks good in BBall and Fball they notice.
Call it whatever you want, but if we can turn state percentage even 5-10% that would help a ton.
I got a hawkeye kid neighbor that when I take him to Hilton his eyes light up. He doesn't ever get to Carver and if he did I don't think it would even compare to be honest.
that is just one example.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -

The mismatch was of course most evident at QB. Lanning looked really really good last night. Arm strength was incredible to me, at one point throwing a 40 yard pass (that was dropped) on the run while escaping the pocket. Lanning had two nice touchdown passes and three rushing tds in the 45-10 win. He carried defenders up the field multiple times and lowered the boom on some "tacklers". At one point Ankeny ran a WR reverse in which Lanning was the lead blocker. He promptly put a LB on his back with a super block as the ball carrier raced down the sideline.
When Lanning committed, I could only see him on the defensive side of the ball for ISU. I am starting to think I was wrong. Either way, kid is a stud, and I am very excited he is coming to Ames.

There's no reason at all that cyclones can take over the Des Moines metro area. No reason at all. Still too many hawk fans this close.
