Hadn't we barely beaten Kansas the week before? I thought we may have a shot to pick up one more W in our last three games but I would have bet dollars to doughnuts that there was no way it was going to be against OSU, too much of a finesse team that I didn't think we could hang with and didn't match up well against. I was thrilled at half time that I was there to see us hang with a top 2 team in the nation for a while. Then they scored again and I like most of us thought here we go and we finished drinking the bottle of whiskey we had brought in.
Hell, I still think if you play that game 9 more times, OSU wins all of them. It was just one of those rare occassions that was ISU's night. Looking back, the win anctually makes sense. Our D was pretty good and did stymie them more than they were used to. A lot of times, when you get a team like OSU and they aren't scoring at will on every drive, they start to get frustrated and force things. Combine that with ISU making a come back in the second half by ISU and it was a recipe for disaster for OSU.
It's kind of funny, I remember telling people after the game, "I knew we had a shot!" But honestly, I didn't know that, I was sure we were going to get beat by at least 35 points. I think the thing is, we all had hope. Isn't that the reason we go to the games? I think I hoped so much that we had a shot, that I turned that into "Knowing" after the game.
I think there was a general consensus that we could beat Texas. After they blew us out of the water, I had pretty much given up thinking we had a legitimate shot to beat any of the top teams in the conference. I think we all hope so much for a victory though, that when we get a big one, for some it might seem like we knew it all along. As I said though, looking back now, at what I said after that game, I didn't really think it would be close enough for ISU to have a legitimate shot to win it.
There were a couple of homers that were hopefully optimistic...

I remember talk on this board about, maybe not expecting a win but a good shot at an upset. There were a couple of articles throwing around the idea of an upset with OSU coming to town. I remember an article in the Reg even.
With that said, I have heard about the same amount of talk about upset this time. Most of the articles I've read refer back to the OSU game. I think that we are a 12 point underdog is testament enough that people are expecting us to put up a good fight. Last year at OU we had 3 back to back to back wins and two of them against then top 25 and top 5 teams and I'm pretty sure the spread was more than 12 points going into OU.
I think we must have a strong day on special teams and not give them a short filed. Not allow big plays (greater than 20 yards) and win the turnover battle. IF we can do those things we can stay in this game and give us a chance to win it. If we can't, OU is going to need a terrible day in order for us to pull off the upset.
Onside everytime. Let's hope that's like 10 times. And we recover 9 of them.
I think the line last year opened at -26 OSU and moved to -28.5 OSU, no hype for the upset.
Not outside Iowa and ISU fans. I would say there is more from outside sources for this game. Maybe actually less hype from cyclone fans though. Unlike OSU, OU has a good D. That makes them ore challenging for us.
