If I was Texas, I'd look for Charlie Strong at Louisville, Kyle Wittingham at Utah, Dan Mullen at Mississippi St, or Mark Dantonio at Michigan State. These guys are good coaches who would do incredibly well with the talent level and other advantages of coaching at Texas.

Re: Texas is hunting for a coach

I don't get the comments about not being able to sell PR to a fanbase. Texas is close enough to the situation to know what PR is all about. I don't really think it would be a huge issue. He's not 5-19. He's beaten them with less talent and he's beaten teams better than them.

I have heard this one on Auburn too. Obviously there is a history there but I still think that the fanbase would be much more willing to accept him than a Gene Chizik. At least the CPR hire could be justified through seen improvement.

If I'm wrong great because in a short period of time we will be having the success of a WVU or OSU and the jump in potential will be very small for CPR making it less likely he leaves. I think maybe the fact he is "unproven" buys us enough time to make the big jump (10-11 wins) and then I don't think it's even a relevant issue.

UT just has Rhoads envy. It'll get worse after next weekend.

There's definitely been a lot of heat on Mack from the fans down here, mostly because of the underperforming defense, but the administration still stands behind him. I have a pretty hard time imagining that they dump him after this year, unless they have just a catastrophic final 4 games.

On another note, I had a chance to wander into the football team's academic/tutoring building last week, and that thing is sexy.

Just wondering if this is posted in fear which one poster claimed about the thread on a Hawkeye forum talking about Paul Rhoads leaving.

Didn't Dantonio get beat by the Hawks this year? Automatic disqualifier!

Take off your ISU glasses. Texas fans have a wish list that starts with Chip Kelly and Chris Petersen. Taking a coach that hasn't won more than 8 games in a season, and hasn't shown obvious improvement in win totals, is not something they are going to be excited about.

Re: Texas is hunting for a coach

Laughing out loud at the people thinking a coach would leave LSU, Alabama, or Florida for Texas... WHY???

Rhoads would absolutely take the Texas job, especially if he was the first guy they went after. Every coach in America wants to be THE BEST coach in America. Tough to do that without multiple National Championships...

I agree. They will want someone who has gone to and won BIG bowl games, probably BCS games. Chris Petersen comes to mind. Gary Patterson from TCU might have been a higher probability before they joined the Big12. Charlie Strong will get a shot if he can keep Louisville winning all season.

Why? Because it's the highest paid job in all of college football! Nick Saban has said that there are only TWO jobs he'd consider leaving Alabama for: University of Texas and the Dallas Cowboys. Mack Brown gets paid more money than Nick Saban!

There hasn't been obvious improvement in this program? Take off your Hawkeye glasses. Chip Kelly isn't going to UT. He has it made in Oregon and Knight will match whatever he wants to be there. Peterson would come before Rhoads. I'm not saying he is the first choice but I think it would be a hire that can be justified. It's nothing like Chizik.
