Re: Recruiting Stars do Matter
So if that's the problem then shouldn't we fire Rhoads and bring in a coach that can bring in recruits with stars?
What? No please leave this discusion. It's obvious you can't participate without throwing dumb stuff out there.
Fire CPR. Um no. Hope to get better recruits? Yes
Look at the top 10 recruiting classes. Notice anything about them. Yeah they are all ranked in the top 10 year in and year out. Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2010 Team Recruiting Rankings
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Re: Recruiting Stars do Matter
I don't think people really argue that stars don't matter at all. I think the point is that we can do it without getting all 4 or 5 star players. If we can't, then we might as well fold it in and call it a day.

Re: Recruiting Stars do Matter
It's really simple. It's both. You need good players and you need good coaching. We have decent players, and a pretty good coach. The only problem is that there are lots of good coaches in the B12, but we are behind several schools in overall talent.
I'm completely comfortable with our coaching. Now we just need to upgrade our talent level if we want to win 8+ games.

Thanks for figuring out his opinion for him. Somehow he turned this into a fire CRP thread. Luckily you came in an posted an actual opinion for him to agree with. Before that he was lost.

I am really nervous about this years recruiting class. It looks like a Dan McCarney type class the last two years he was coaching. Not a lot of kids with other BCS offers and commiting to us because we were the only big program to offer them. WE LANDED ON THE MOON!

Rhoadhoused said it best when he said, "Stars don't matter individually, but they matter collectively.". Something like that, at least.

And now this year, Chiz has the distinction of proving the exact opposite. That coaching/development are extremely important, as they still have very good players (maybe not NC caliber, but certainly better than SEC average).

Re: Recruiting Stars do Matter
OU's 4 star recruits have 30 BCS offers.
ISU's 4 star recruits usually have 1 BCS offer.
We could fill our roster with Darius Reynolds type 4 star recruits and get blasted. Not to bash on him, but most of our big time recruits would never sniff the field at OU

The 4/5 stars that big name programs get tend to have big time offers. Usually if we get a 4-star it's by default, because for some reason most big programs have backed off.

Also, Bill Snyder isn't our coach in case you haven't noticed. I like Paul, but I'm not ready to put him in Snyder's category, which is among the top 5 HC's of all time.
