I'm not one to normally play the what if game. We lost, we have many things to get better at. Still you have to consider that outside of KState, no one has played OU as close as we did today. Tech is ranked #18 and the lost by 21 at home. Kansas lost by 45 and the ranked team we play next week lost by 42. Makes a 15 point loss seem better huh? Especially when you consider we had the ball and was driving late.
From 2002 to 2010 (5 games) we lost to OU by an average of 35.8 points per contest. That includes the fluke 2007 game where we held them to 17 points. From 2011 though 2012 (2 games) we have lost by an average of 17 points.
2002: 49-3 (Norman)
2003: 53-7 (Ames)
2006: 34-9 (Norman)
2007: 17-7 (Ames)
2010: 52-0 (Norman)
2011: 26-6 (Norman)
2012: 35-20 (Ames)
The other thing that jumps out is that we scored more points on OU today than the last 3 games combined (almost more than the last 4).
Last, he said play with, not win. We belong on the same field as OU now. That could not have been said two years ago.
After seeing how we preformed and how Texas and KU preformed does anyone feel better about our next two games? Nope

ISU defense is not a strong as it was in the beginning of the year due to injuries.
ISU offense is still inconsistent. Watsen should be back and George filled in at an acceptable level. The offense is better than what it was against TT and K-State.

Re: ***Post Game thread vs. Oklahoma***
We will win another game if not 2 and make a bowl game. OU owns us I am not upset at all today.

Re: ***Post Game thread vs. Oklahoma***
Injuries to Knott and our two DBs showed today. Kick off coverage coaching needs a facelift.
And other than special teams, I think you have to sit #3.
Clone to the Bone with the up and coming IOWA STATE. -
Re: ***Post Game thread vs. Oklahoma***
Texas and WVU seem to be playing well so far today, definitely aren't gimmes.
I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story. -

Link to post-game/cyclone reaction?

Re: ***Post Game thread vs. Oklahoma***
I think other than MAYBE OSU, this is the only team that just walks onto the field and is automatically better than us. No other teams we've faced - or will still face this year - will have that.

Re: ***Post Game thread vs. Oklahoma***

Drops killed us and the offense couldn't stay on the field long enough to give the defense a chance to rest.

ISU offense is still inconsistent. We could be 9-0 with an average of 50 points per victory and you wouldn't be convinced. That's your game.
What I think:
1) Steele is fine. He made good decisions, and mostly good throws.
2) Arceo is fine. I like him now. He did everything you want a kicker to do.
3) I feel for Cliff Stokes. First game out, and he got burned over and over. He'll get better, but that was rough.
4) Our receivers have problems. Way too many easy drops all over the field.
We'll get some more wins. We're in good shape and making progress.

Yeah, but that is not the same as the blind statement of "we cannot play with them". OSU was better in 2011, NU in 2009. We can play with OU. That does not mean anyone thinks we are an even bet against OU, or do not need things to fall our way (health, TOs, freak plays). Maybe we are talking past each other. We were certainly competitive today and as I have said two previous times, I'm happy with the effort and proud of the guys.
But to the extent people are saying "we're right there!", I disagree at least for today. We never had the ball a single time in the second half with a chance to tie or take the lead. When the game was in doubt, OU drove the length of the field 3 or 4 times for TDs. Tip the cap to them, particularly Jones and his receivers. They know what they are doing and have terrific ability.
And Bob Stoops can f*** off.

ISU offense is still inconsistent. Double negative! Daserop said something positive even if he didn't mean to! Mark this down!

We'll get some more wins. We're in good shape and making progress. I thought Stokes was in OK position. Jones made perfect throws and his receivers go up and get the ball. That's just the facts of life in this conference.
