We need to play in bowl games to get the extra practice time. You get to better bowls by winning more than 6 games, which is the goal of CPR and the staff/team. Who we play is limited only by our performance. If this post by OP is trying to justify not going to a lower level bowl, ok, but we're not Notre Dame or Nebraska or someone who turns their nose up at bowls named for obscure companies. We have to earn our way to the bigger bowls. Cotton Bowl, BCS Bowl, etc. That's a worthy goal.

The OP's premise is wrong from the start. There are no Big 12 bowl tie-ins in mid December. Unless there are more than 8 bowl eligible teams, no team is playing in mid December.

No, playing Iowa every year prevents us from scheduling non-conference matchups against other decent BCS opponents. Instead, we get Iowa, I-AA, crappy directional mid-major for our non-conf slate.

When we play Southern Cal in the Holiday Bowl, that will be equally exciting as playing Big 12 teams in Ames. I think our bowl game possiblities can be very interesting and challenging.
