Re: Tailgating at the KU game
Where are most Cyclone fans going to be sitting for this game? I'm planning on getting some tickets from StubHub where they are super cheap right now but would like to not sit amongst a gaggle of Jayhawks.

The CF Group and the Gridiron Club will be in sections 25 and 26 I believe.
Yes, the CF Group will be in lot 90. With the 3 large charter buses and over 150+ people, it's the most realistic place for us to park and tailgate. I know the other groups that are coming down for the game are parking there as well so I would guess we will have 300+ Cyclone fans in that lot. Should be a lot of fun

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
What time is tailgating start there. Researching their game day procedures, it says to alcohol until 3 hours before kick off. Will we be able to tailgate before 3?

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
Has anyone here ever tailgated in Lawrence?
I'm trying to get some info on their board, and its devolved into them beating me over the head about how awesome KU tailgating is after someone told me it was way better than ISU or KSU and I said I had a hard time believing it. They've all flipped out now.
It looks like its just like Iowa, with less fan interest. The lots near the stadium appear to be all donor lots, and after that you're parking in someone's yard and going to a house party. I've literally never heard ANYONE rave about KU tailgating.

I've literally never heard ANYONE rave about KU tailgating. That seems unlikely just based on number of fans attending games.

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
The people who say that tailgating at KU is better are idiots who haven't tailgated at ISU. The tailgating is indeed different at KU, because instead of parking lots around the stadium, it's mostly old houses where students live. What kind of information are you looking for, AL_4_State?
I don't think you should worry about the 3 hour time limit, milrtym.

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
Advice message from a female HS friend of mine who went to KU, might provide some helpful info:
-----------------------------------------------------
Sorry I'm a little slow! I'm glad you're going to a game in Lawrence. The town is fun!
Places to stay: The Oread
-two/three years new
-two blocks from the stadium, if you get the top floors you get a great view of campus and the stadium
-two or three bars (I've only been to the one on the main entrance floor), there is a club in the basement - The Cave (tried to go, but the line was too long), there is another bar/club (I think) on a different level (We didn't want to stalk the KU bball players that were going up there. I think it's kind of selective. Not sure!)
Sprinig Hill Mariott Suits or The Eldidge Hotel:
-Both are on the north end of Mass. St. so GREAT location for the night life
-Any and all good bars are on Mass. St.: Quinton's, Louise's, Red Lion (all good local and laid back bars - HUGE beers at Louise's!)
-Bars closer to the stadium: The Wheel (a Lawerence staple - **sister**'s husband HAS to stop there every time he is back, it's walking distance from the stadium); Louise's West (similar to the one on Mass St. but this one gets busy on game days because it is a few blocks from the stadium - fun place for before or after the game)
-If you don't mind walking, you can walk from Mass. St. to the stadium if you end up staying at Spring Hill Suites or The Eldridge. It's probably 10-12 blocks. Otherwise parking can be a mad house. I would suggest finding a side street on the north side of the stadium. You can park anywhere along there and then walk to the stadium. Tailgating and drinking can take place anywhere around the stadium. Sitting on the hill is a popular place for drinking for those who don't have a parking pass for a lot. Parking lots are reserved for those with passes.

I've literally never heard ANYONE rave about KU tailgating. We tried to tailgate at KU at the end of the McCarney era and it was ridiculously lame. We didn't get into the few donor lots and, since we had a bus, ended up in a lot a long ways away from the stadium.
There were a few dozen KU fans grilling and us. It was almost eerily silent unless we were playing our own music and we felt like we were being rude and too noisy.
Noone at KU cares about tailgating or football for that matter.

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
For those going to the game, you can sit just about anywhere you want in the stadium for the 2nd half. The Jayhawk fans just get up and leave at the half. Leaving the lots after the games is easy because only visiting team fans are left. KU basketball games are just the opposite.

If I was being a dick, let me know. It seems to me that they got really thin skinned.

I don't think you should worry about the 3 hour time limit, milrtym. Well, just good game day info. I did get good information on the KU board, suggesting I go to the Wheel and Jayhawk Cafe, and not spend too much time on Mass Street before the game.
They said their Hill is like the Grove at Ole Miss (yeah ******* right) and talk about all their parking lots, but the lots are all donor, so its useless.
I think we're going to hit up Free State Brewery, Louise's West, and then find parking somewhere in the residential neighborhood near the stadium and hit The Wheel/Hawk.

I will be meandering around drunk with a few buddies, and these KU Kappas... will see how it ends up.

-There is not really a parking lot, just parking in students' lawns
-Block party
-Go bar hopping
-Thousands of people tailgating
-ISU people are ugly, as confirmed on Google Maps
I think most of the people on that board were pretty welcoming, and a couple got real defensive. Your only mistake was continuing to converse with them. I'm in the same boat... I've never been to KU, but definitely have not heard anything "amazing" about their tailgating. Especially when advice I receive from a KU alum (see above) pretty much suggests parking on a side street and bar hopping.
I think you should bring this thread up to them after the game, good or bad.
