Re: Tailgating at the KU game
KU tailgating isn't that special... Hell I could tell that from '05... and I couldn't drink then...
I'm just excited for the KU girls, and our annual roadtrip game this year.

They said their Hill is like the Grove at Ole Miss (yeah ******* right) and talk about all their parking lots, but the lots are all donor, so its useless.
I think we're going to hit up Free State Brewery, Louise's West, and then find parking somewhere in the residential neighborhood near the stadium and hit The Wheel/Hawk. Free State Brewery is a good call. Get a side of Cheddar Ale Soup with whatever you order, and have a few beers there.
You may be terribly disappointed by (Louise's) West, if you've never been there. It's an old, small, dive bar. They do make a pretty killer bloody mary, though.
I don't know anything about the Grove, but I can't imagine KU's tailgating compares to anything in the SEC. I will say that, when KU is good and it's not an 11:00 game, the tailgating can be pretty damn fun. But when the team is bad, students just keep tailgating instead of going to the game. So it doesn't seem to be as lively, because a lot of them are hidden in houses instead of in huge lots, but they're out there drinking.
Parking will be $10-$20 depending on how close to the stadium you want to be. Stay on the East side of the stadium if you want to go to the Wheel. It's another dive, but it's a fun atmosphere. I've never been to the Hawk on gameday - I've always heard it's a good spot - but you'll be the only person above 19 years old if you go there at any other point.
It's nice that it's a 6:00 game, that'll allow lots of time for tailgating.

Telling me I will be disappointed by it would be like telling Jerry Sandusky that he's going to be disappointed by the sexual prospects in the locker room after a 7th grade boys basketball game.
I'm sure it can, and will be pretty damn fun. I said that a million times in that thread on their board. I just figure based on everything I've heard that it isn't the mass congregated huge-*** party that ISU tailgating is.

I've been to Lawrence many many times, my Uncle is a Dentist there. We have eaten at Free State brewery many times and will be returning this time also. It is very good.Great beer, very good food, very reasonable prices. You can drink a beer in line while waiting for a table. Party atmosphere, and casual dining.

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
Sections 25 and 26? Those are some crappy-*** seats. Any other sections known to be for the visitors? There are tickets available on StubHub around the 40 yard line lower level for $26/each.
What time are the CF buses scheduled to arrive at Lot 90? We'll be driving down separately but definitely want to be near ISU fans when we get there.

Trust me we would love to get 40 yard line seats but we ordered over 200 tickets and we ordered them over a month ago. We didn't have the ability to wait it out and gamble. Plus there is something to say about sitting by hundreds of Cyclone fans.
We are really looking forward to this trip. We should roll into Lot 90 around 3

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
I really wanted to make this trip this year, but the wife and I could not find a babysitter. The real question is will there be more ISU or KU fans there?

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
In a big group, go with the Lot 90 suggestions. Have fun with ISU folks. The parking really close to the stadium doesn't exist, it's lawns and parking lots of apartment buildings and they'll hit you up for $10-30(no bathroooms). You have to have a group to make your own fun. I've never found it to be "fun". It's not a football school. Their fans lack that "tailgating gene". The stadium looks like it's going to collapse when viewed from underneath walking in, that's bad enough. That, and we just don't play well there. I'm sick of it, and don't get it. This team better get up for this game, because KU is going to look at our team as the way to end their BigXll losing streak. I don't want us to be that. That game in 2005 was just stupid with the video reviews and the calls.

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
Lot 90 is wide open and a good place to tailgate with clean porta potties right by the tennis
courts. If you tailgate there make sure you get on the shuttle at least a half hour before
kick to make sure you make it inside on time. The buses wind through the campus and
it is a slow tedious process.

Hey, I'm excited for Lot 90, Section 21/22, riding a shuttle and a victory.

Pretty sure those are the official visitor's sections, so that is the place to be if you don't want to sit with a bunch of beaker fans. That said, there are some pretty cheap tickets to be had right now, so wouldn't blame anyone for upgrading their way to midfield.

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
The other thing to point out.
When Adam got these tickets awhile ago KU wasn't 0-7 1-8 (like now) so of course they are going to be cheaper now.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -

Sorry I'm a little slow! I'm glad you're going to a game in Lawrence. The town is fun!
Places to stay: The Oread
-two/three years new
-two blocks from the stadium, if you get the top floors you get a great view of campus and the stadium
-two or three bars (I've only been to the one on the main entrance floor), there is a club in the basement - The Cave (tried to go, but the line was too long), there is another bar/club (I think) on a different level (We didn't want to stalk the KU bball players that were going up there. I think it's kind of selective. Not sure!)
Sprinig Hill Mariott Suits or The Eldidge Hotel:
-Both are on the north end of Mass. St. so GREAT location for the night life
-Any and all good bars are on Mass. St.: Quinton's, Louise's, Red Lion (all good local and laid back bars - HUGE beers at Louise's!)
-Bars closer to the stadium: The Wheel (a Lawerence staple - **sister**'s husband HAS to stop there every time he is back, it's walking distance from the stadium); Louise's West (similar to the one on Mass St. but this one gets busy on game days because it is a few blocks from the stadium - fun place for before or after the game)
-If you don't mind walking, you can walk from Mass. St. to the stadium if you end up staying at Spring Hill Suites or The Eldridge. It's probably 10-12 blocks. Otherwise parking can be a mad house. I would suggest finding a side street on the north side of the stadium. You can park anywhere along there and then walk to the stadium. Tailgating and drinking can take place anywhere around the stadium. Sitting on the hill is a popular place for drinking for those who don't have a parking pass for a lot. Parking lots are reserved for those with passes. The Oread and the Eldridge is pretty $$$ but they are really neat. My dad stayed in the Oread when he came and visited me. Not recommended for kids and people who wants to sleep (place gets really loud and they give you ear plugs!) The Eldridge is on downtown. Can't ask for better location. If you don't like ghost, definitely not the place for you. That place is haunted (for real).

Re: Tailgating at the KU game
Lot 90 isn't that far. I work pretty much right next to it. There is a shuttle that takes you over to stadium if you don't want to walk. My buddy (another die hard Cyclone fan) lives off of lot 90, we will definitely join you all then.
I am super psyched to see all of you are making trip to Lawrence!! Let me know if I can do anything to make your stay amazing in Larryville!
