We have no quarterback that is our glaring issue. If we had one we would be an upper level Big 12 team. But we don't have one and the loss of Knott has hurt the defense to the point where that was keeping us in games.
It is fairly obvious that the injuries to Jake Knott, Jansen Watson and Broomy have affected our defense. When we could put Jake, AJ and Jeremiah on the field at the same time we were pretty effective at stopping the run. Without Jake, we've had to move AJ to Jake's spot, and we've been using either CJ or Broomy as the third linebacker. The result is we are struggling to stop the run.
TT has been fairly strong against the run this year, so watching KU run for 400 yards against them is very alarming. We are not the same team we were before the injury bug. Hopefully we can get Jansen back this week and the new guys can continue to develop otherwise we could be in trouble. There are no guarantees in this conference.
Kansas is a power rushing team, that's all they have. Our defense is very weak against the pass right now but we will do fine by stacking the box against them.
I expect Watson will be back by the time WVU rolls into town. That'll be a huge difference. Texas just played a game of "Throw it far away from Klein and Reeves" and it worked out perfectly for them.
The 5 teams we lost to have a combined record of 29-10.
The 5 teams we defeated have a combined record of 25-24.
Kansas and WV have a combined record of 6-13.
That plus CPR's history here makes me believe that we will win at least one of the 2 games and go bowling.
Even with our injuries and horrible play we still held Texas and Oklahoma below their scoring average for the season. Not a single team has scored at or above their average against us. Kansas averages 16.5 points a game so I expect to hold them to 14 or less.
I'm expecting to lose against KU. Pretty much have felt that way since the season started. They play us well even when they are awful (see last year).
If we don't get out of the blocks fast, it will be a 10-14 pt loss I fear. Their D is stout. I could see something like 27-14 KU.
I don't believe we'll be favored either. I see it as a pick-em.
