Mess: Kansas is going to blitz
Mess: If they know that I know they are going to blitz then they won't blitz because they know I am ready for it
Mess: Haha silly Kansas
Mess to Team: Guys Kansas is going to fake blitz this week because they think we are prepping for them to blitz
Mess to SJ: No more max protect lets hit um with the read-option
Mess: Haha they arn't going to know what it um
Mess to CPR: Coah don't worry about the offense Saturday I GOT THIS!
Mess to Herman: Hey, what play from your offense is good to run against a fake blitz?
Herman to Mess: I've got a hundred in mind for that very situation. Too complex for you simpletons? Don't worry, the routes are all the same. I'll have to ask Coach Meyer first though. He will call you..
Meyer to Mess: Have your stud QB improvise.
Mess hangs up phone: HAHA knew Read Option!
I listened to this call in show based on comments about good content and after listening would agree and would add the following:
During Pollard's time, he got asked about revenue breakdown and gave a detailed answer about where revenues come from and how it has changed since he's been here:
1. His first budget of $29 M included 13% from Iowa BOR allocation, which is now zero.
2. The current budget of $56 M includes about 55-60% from ticket sales and fan donations, which is the same percentage as when he first got here but over a much larger budget, so "fans have stepped up".
3. Bowls overall are very profitable especially for a 10 team conference (more $/member from bowl allocations) driven almost entirely off of new tv contracts and the new BCS format that will start in 2 years.
4. He indicated the new tv contract helps but isn't as much of the total budget as casual fans might think - don't remember total %.
Pollard also gave his perspective on how to allocate and spend that money as he was praised by Walters for squeezing the most out of a dollar and Pollard said his focus was on what do the teams NEED, not on wants and a collaborative approach that involves the coaches closely on design along with chosen vendors like Wietz (Football complex with ex-FB player Ben Bruns as general forman) to get the most out of the investments.
Also indicated strategy for cyclones.tv is to lower overall game broadcast costs and focus on getting the highest revenue sports first with the ultimate goal to get all ISU sports broadcast.
Overall, one of the more informative call in shows about athletics and football I've listened to. For those with a cyclones.tv sub, I'd recommend giving it a listen.
