Tim Dobbins
I just heard Tim Dobbins has been fined 30,000.00 by the NFL for his hit on Jay Cutler. I didn't see the play but I was wondering if anybody saw it and whether it was a borderline hit or if he deserved the fine.

Re: Tim Dobbins
It was borderline but I'm not surprised at the fine. Cutler was past the line of scrimmage and had not started to slide. Dobbins hit jolted Cutler's neck and head pretty good and gave him a concussion, which is probably why the fine follows. It was not a helmet to helmet hit, but they called it a 15 yard penalty for targeting the head.

I'm back and forth. I think he could have pulled up if he wanted to, but I don't see any contact above the shoulders. $30k seems steep.

Flag? Yes. Fine? No. He pulled up and it wasn't like he was leading with the crown of his helmet. He also pulled up and didn't hit him that hard.

Re: Tim Dobbins
It wasn't a necessary hit, but it's football. It was a powerful hit, but not over the line.

Re: Tim Dobbins
Are you guys watching the same video I am? Definite helmet to helmet contact and he even jumps up into him. Love my Clones but that deserves a fine. Complain all you want about the rules ( I do all the time) but they are what they are for a reason and he should have lowered his targeting area.

Re: Tim Dobbins
Dobbins should be fined just for saying Cutler ran into him.

Re: Tim Dobbins
Cutler could have easily tucked the ball and ran, and if Dobbins had pulled up and missed everyone would be talking about what a poor tackler he is. Cutler was running wild in the middle of the field, it is Dobbins job to stop him. Jay is very fast and often runs for long gains, Dobbins stopped that from happening and does not deserve a fine.

When you looked at the slow motion blown up replays during the game, there was no helmet to helmet. Cutler's head and neck were jolted pretty good though (whiplash like) but his head bounced off of Dobbins shoulder pads.

Re: Tim Dobbins
It was definately flag worthy. I believe it was fineable too, especially since Cutler ended up with a concussion because of it. It shouldn't matter but I think if Cutler continued to play and did not have a concussion, the fine would've been lower (10k) or maybe even no fine but since he was injured and will probably miss 1 (and maybe more) games, a fine was necessary. 30K was a bit much, but not crazy.
Final opinion, it wasn't dirty. Dobbins was just making a hit on a runner. It was a big hit but (IMHO), it wasn't malicious.
Yep, this thread has just been pwned. -
Re: Tim Dobbins
I think he deserved the fine for not mentioning ISU in the intro! Classless!

Had he hit him like that with the ball still in his hand then you may have a point. But the hit was after the throw so your point is invalid. Dobbins takes a step and a half after the ball has been released. I don't believe the hit was dirty, but according to the rules it's a penalty and fine-able.

You may be right there..are there any of those views up on youtube or anywhere? And on a side note...It may have been another hit when Cutler took one to the jaw. The helmet spins almost 90 degrees instantaneously. I'll have to do some serious Yoda thinking on this and see if I can find it. I just remember seeing it and cringing. Was there another helmet to helmet called or not called in that game? I swear it was that play because they were looking at the line of scrimmage which was why they had it on slo-mo. The announcers didn't say anything about it but you saw it just as they were cutting to a different view.
