Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball
Shontrelle agrees.. give the man the ball (via Twitter)
Seems like we're finally running the ball alright again, wonder if we'll get it going this week offensively? If not, we may be in trouble against KU which will own time of possession.
Shontrelle Johnson @_ShonJohn
everyones talking bout the run game this, run game that. Predominant RB's across the country avg. a minimum 20 carries a game. IM just sayin
Shontrelle Johnson @_ShonJohn
@ChrisMWilliams also haven't had a back with more than 18 carries since Tulsa.." #DramaticDecrease

Hope that doesn't earn him some time on the pine. (Though what he is saying is true most coaches don't enjoy players questioning them on social media.)

Re: Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball
Mess is drawing up a bunch of slow developing intermediate pass routes as we speak.

Yeah, I was surprised to see it. It is troubling to see the young man frustrated with playcalling, but I like that he's hungry. Guess this message board is not the only one unhappy with the offense!

Damn straight. 4th and 5 is our bread and butter.

Re: Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball
If someone told me in preseason ISU would have more passing attempts (365) than rushing (349) after 10 games, would have scoffed — or assumed we'd be forced to play major catch-up in a lot of games.

Re: Run the ball, run the ball, run the ball
As much as I agree with Shontrelle, most teams just have 1 back who gets the bulk of the carries and averages over 20 a game, where we have 3 great backs who split the carries.
However, if during the game Shon John, White, or Woody have the hot hand and are getting 5-6 yards a carry, don't take them out for a new RB. Keep feeding him the ball until the D stops him or he gets tired.
We do need to run the ball more early in the game, before we get behind and HAVE to throw.

I hope not - Heck - Woody's dad was posting on here a month ago about how frustrated the RBs are. If nothing else at least split Shontrelle and White out wide, they have better hands than our receivers .

Woody is averaging barely 2 carries a game.

Part of that is due to injury, but its still inexcusable.

There is nothing that Jeff cant do that the other backs can do. Jeff has been labeled a short yardage back, but he can run with the best of them. I, and others do not understand that fact that when shontrell is put in this year, and consistently shows that he doesnt gain any yards, or is to small to block, why he is left in there to do another, and another play(s)....all with the same result, OR he fumbles the ball. If you watch sj, he skips around in the backfield to much before he picks a hole. With jeff, the linemen create the hole as designed, and jeff can punch his way through. There is not enough time in this league to be bouncing around looking for a hole. Someone is going to grab you from the side if you wait to long.
With all that said, Jeff is as frustrated as the rest of you with him not getting the reps during the game. I have told him that he needs to consistently be standing by Pope, and be there when they need him. Be the one in which they can always depend on.
