Check ESPN's flagship Thursday Night Football ratings. They are likely better than any of our Saturday games on any FSN, FCS, regional ABC, etc. -- maybe even better than this Friday's ABC national telecast.
Also, check the ratings for our Friday night game against Oklahoma State last year.
We are past needing to schedule things with attendance in mind. Iowa State fans have proved that the last two years. And sorry, none of this is done with tailgating in mind.
You hit and said what I was thinking. It will get great ratings and attendance is not a factor at ISU any longer. And who in their right mind worries about prime tailgating time? Our group prefers cold weather anyway!
If you don't make the fans happy, those attendance trends don't hold. We're already losing home games to the 9 game conference schedule, one on thursday when a good number can't make them (or have a drastically reduced gameday experience thanks to not being able to tailgate), diminishes the value for season ticketholders.
52,000 people last year on Friday, November 18th, 2011 disagree with you.
USC and Oregon play Thursday night games on ESPN every season. These aren't no-names. We can continue to play to our local niche on FCS if you'd prefer.
