    With O'Brien
    1997 Big East Conference 4–7 3–4
    1998 Big East Conference 4–7 3-4
    1999 Big East Conference 8–4 4–3
    2000 Big East Conference 7–5 3–4
    2001 Big East Conference 8–4 4–3
    2002 Big East Conference 9–4 3–4
    2003 Big East Conference 8–5 3–4
    2004 Big East Conference 9–3 4–2**
    2005 Atlantic Coast Conference 9–3 5–3
    2006 Atlantic Coast Conference 10–3 5–3
After O'Brien left look what happens
    2007 Atlantic Coast Conference 11–3 6–2 #
    2008 Atlantic Coast Conference 9–5 5–3 #
    2009 Atlantic Coast Conference 8–5 5–3
    2010 Atlantic Coast Conference 7–6 4–4
    2011 Atlantic Coast Conference 4–8 3–5
    2012 ACC 2-10 1-7

    Team completely collapsed this year.
It's pretty mixed opinions about that firing here in Raleigh. He was a great guy who could obviously coach since he knocked off top-ranked teams just as often as CPR. He would just lose games (like Tennessee and Virginia this year) that he really should have won. I think that's what eventually got him ousted.

I liked Obrien. I got to see his last game in person last Saturday. He was good coach, kept his kids out of trouble, and most graduated.

There are four coaches that interviewed for the NC State job. The LA Tech coach, Clemson's OC, and two others who have not been leaked. An announcement is expected Friday.

NC State has found their new head coach - Dave Doeren, formerly of Northern Illinois. They had to wait until today to announce it due to the MAC championship game last night.

Edit: From the press release it sounds like he has an Iowa connection:
He started his college coaching career as an assistant at Drake from 1995-97, where he coached linebackers before adding defensive coordinator responsibilities in 1997.
A four-year letterwinner at Drake (1990-93), Doeren earned Academic All-America honors as a senior and graduated with a bachelor's degree in pre-medical biology and a master's degree in educational leadership.
