Bowl game projection - What if Kansas wins?
I've read most of the bowl game discussion and all the projections I can find. All make the (very safe) assumption that West Virginia wins against Kansas. But what if that doesn't happen? Are we back in the running for the Holiday Bowl? Or did we need that 7th win regardless of what happens in West Virginia this weekend?

NO...really won't matter. WVU to NYC for sure then. Holiday probably take TCU.

This would happen if Kansas wins.

If that happens, and OU and KSU win, here is what I would predict. If the Big 12 gets 2 BCS: Fiesta: KSU Sugar: OU Cotton: UT Alamo: OSU BWW: TT Holiday: TCU Meineke: BU Pinstripe: WV HOD: ISU If the Big 12 only gets 1 BCS: Fiesta: KSU Cotton: OU Alamo: UT BWW: OSU Holiday: TT Meineke: TCU Pinstripe: WV HOD: BU At-large: ISU -

If Kansas wins, I'll know the Mayan 2012 end of the world predictions are true.
Seriously, though, ISU is likely either Music City or that Dallas bowl, regardless of rest of the games.

I think that makes them a stone cold lock for pinstripe.
And i wouldnt be surprised by a KU win. They have a strange 'down week, up week, down week, up week' pattern. Each up week has gotten progressively closer to a win. If the pattern holds, either this goes to 3OT or KU wins. KU has shown flashes of ability. And WVU is a team that's shown its very beatable

At this point in their season, and on the road it would take some big ones to pick Kansas.

KU winning seems unlikely, but it'd be perfectly in line with this year's Big 12.

Re: Bowl game projection - What if Kansas wins?
doubt it does much at all...would be surprised that WVU goes to the Holiday Bowl...just doesn't make sense for TCU or Tech not to be picked there if they are available.
Come here to chew bubble gum and kick ***, have I. And all out of bubble gum, I am. -

Here are some numbers that the Bowl comitties will be looking at when comparing teams.
This table is sorted by % Capacity. | Team | Capacity | Games | Toal | High | Average | % | | Oklahoma | 82,112 | 6 | 511,460 | 86,031 | 85,243 | 103.81% | | TCU | 45,000 | 5 | 228,780 | 47,894 | 45,756 | 101.68% | | Texas | 100,119 | 6 | 605,304 | 101,851 | 100,884 | 100.76% | | Iowa State | 55,000 | 7 | 386,917 | 56,800 | 55,273 | 100.50% | | K-State | 50,000 | 6 | 301,031 | 50,781 | 50,171 | 100.34% | | Texas Tech | 60,454 | 6 | 343,251 | 60,879 | 57,208 | 94.63% | | WVU | 60,000 | 6 | 340,297 | 60,101 | 56,716 | 94.53% | | OSU | 60,218 | 7 | 395,895 | 57,799 | 56,556 | 93.92% | | Baylor | 50,000 | 5 | 207,962 | 44,856 | 41,592 | 83.18% | | Kansas | 50,071 | 6 | 247,971 | 46,601 | 41,328 | 82.54% |
Add the fact ISU has doubled its number of season tickets sold in the last 5 years and JP has some good numbers to work with when pitching us to a bowl game.

Re: Bowl game projection - What if Kansas wins?
Your chart is also very very deceptive. TCU sells tickets but any shot of the stadium will show lots of empty seats. Additionally, some fan bases travel well, others tend to stay home by the fire and watch games on TV.

The way I'm reading dark star's table, if we finish the SEZ and end with a capacity of just over 60,000, that puts us behind only Texas and Oklahoma in the statistical category of stadium capacity. Talk about sleeping giant possibilities! Especially if we can continue to sell out the stadium.

Re: Bowl game projection - What if Kansas wins?
Really hoping for the Meinke Bowl..And I could see them taking ISU over Baylor

If we can just get an 8 or 9 win season(s) in the next few years, we could easily have the type of momentum to climb out of the hole left from the many previous decades of indifference. Imo the growth we are currently seeing is from the "powers that be" slowly committing to athletics so that ISU can finally capitalize on being a large state university. We are still capable of much more- the type of momentum in ISU passion that comes with substantial sustained success.
If ISU had a run like KSU under Synder in the past 10 years, imo we would be talking about filling up a 65-70k stadium.
